I have a legit tactrix 2.0 (from my subaru tuning days), reached out to confirm I could use it and was told that they will only register vf tuner to their cable/adapter now. Kind of annoyed that I need to buy an expensive adapter when I already own one.

I don't know all the underlying VFTuner-specific details, but over time folks can abuse cables/licensing models and when that happens (or to prevent it from the start) vendors take steps to counteract it. I think this was a driver for such a change. Good news is that cable still works for all non-VFTuner use so you can always sell it to someone "still in their subaru tuning days"

FYI, it works. In the past there was option to buy software only and a few of us bought directly from Tactrix.
The game rules were changed a few time unfortunately...
