The plastic caps that go on the top of the bed sides appear to be called by Toyota 'Rear body side panel protector'.

I need the 2 pins (one front, one rear) that connect this to the bedside. I have one out as a sample, and they are sort of threaded. By sort of, the threads are only on about 1/2 of the shaft, but they are angled like threads.

The number for the pins I find on dealer diagrams for the protectors is 90467-07188. However, searching this number for a more detailed pic, the pins shown don't match what I have in hand.

These should be the same for all 2nd gens.

I'll likely go to a local dealer to buy, but I prefer to tell them what if I can. Even if someone can tell me the 'Toyota' name (like pin, clip, retainer, etc) that would likely be helpful.

    Thanks!

I know you already know this... but a pic of what you already have in hand would certainly be helpful. :hattip:

Any generic push pin /retainer of comparable size should work. Doesn't need to be a "toyota" retainer. Just take one down to the local parts store and match it up

Looking at it with my glasses on under better light, it appears to just be a tapered 'force fit'. I'll try the parts house down the street for a generic part. If nothing close enough is there, I'll move along to other options.

I realized I had a missing button while working to replace the metal bed rail screws with SS allen head units, #12 SS washers & some antiseize. Glad I did, because some were really tight, and small torx don't respond well to too much pressure. I buggered two of them and had to use a chisel to get them to break free so I could turn them out.

Lowe's has a pretty good assortment of those in their hardware area that includes specialized fasteners. Home Depot probably does too. They will be in slide-out drawers in a display similar to the picture that b_r_o posted above.

For what it's worth, those don't look like Toyota clips. 90467-07188 are probably the actual clip that is supposed to be in there.

I was gonna say, unless my 6 lug bed rail caps are different (I doubt they are) I have push pins with the inner pin and outer expansion part. It's similar to the Honda style with a nice round head

I agree, those look like something non-original

Certainly possible. I bought the truck at 1yr old and 8k miles, and I've not had that apart. It did come with a one piece fiberglass cover, but I can't imagine why those covers would have been removed.

Maybe they were either on install or when I swapped that hard cover for my trifold. I guess that would explain why one up front (harder to see) was missing.

So to wrap this up, I took @DES2009 tip on Lowe's and the other comments on 'style' and not 'factory' and picked up these. They work, but are a pinch loose. I may go see if there is a slightly larger dia choice, since I was pretty much guessing by holding the old torn one in hand.

I was too dumb to think to measure the hole first. :anonymous:

    Thanks for the pointers folks!
