I wonder if anyone has made their own bed extender? I know there's advantages to the typical types that swing down on the tailgate when opened - such as keeping small items like grocery bags in place when the tailgate is shut, but when not needed I can see it being in the way. I saw a photo of a home made extender made from plywood. My Tacoma (maybe they all do) has a ring on each side of the bed floor near the tailgate where maybe an extender could be secured. The bed extenders I've seen require drilling in to the bed, not out of the question, but I may consider building something myself that would be out of the truck when not in use.

The Tacoma was just right for this particular load.

The OEM bed extenders / amp bed extenders are mounted on the metal by the tail lights. Requires drilling. The extender pivots on these mounts and can easily be removed with a latch when it’s not in used while the mount in stays bolted on.

Yep -- I got a factory bed extender not too long after we bought our trucklet in 2005. Super easy to remove & re-install. It came with a template to locate holes for mounting.

Would be cool to fabricate a replacement tailgate that's 5 feet tall instead of 2.5. When you lay it down, the bed virtually doubles.

Visibility while it's up would be nonexistent tho. Unless the bottom was trailer-mesh....
