You might not need Cats, you may have an air leak. Check your seals. What I do is hook up a shop vac and switch from suck to blow (Spaceballs - The comment) with the nozzle attached to the exhaust. Some soapy water around the seals will show you if you have a leak. Excessive bubbles may be an indicator of bad seals. Additionally, if you have access to a borescope, you can borescope the top end of your cats by pulling the upstream sensor and feeding the scope in. The thing is with Cats, you might not notice any fouling on the front or back of the mesh but the internal mesh has decided to throw the ghost. You cant tell until you remove it and give it a little shake. You might not get away with the spark plug non-fouler workaround with your vehicle inspection. Bottom-line, seals are dirt cheap compared to picking up new cats. Hope this helps.

You are correct especially because I live in California and I’m seeing for carb compliant cats is over 2k pounds wtf!

I will check for leaks, I mean hope of leaks… damn this went 0-60 real quick.

Hey Bishop what do you think about those cat temperatures? Is that excessive? I want to make sure I’m solving the underlying issue before changing out the cats so my new cats don’t go bad. Could my muffler or other car further down stream be clogged up?

I cant speak to the exact range you should be seeing, sure someone else can. But I do know cats runs very hot by design. Allows the catalyst material to react with and scrub the gases

    Hey Mike06toyota
I just replaced mine. I had only an exhaust leak(either upper left hand or lower left hand bolts of the six on the drivers side). I flushed mine out with

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DHB2Z88?ie=UTF8

I bought it three times because the code PO430 kept coming up. The guy who put my new ones on, which I thought I needed but ended up being an exhaust leak, told me my old factory cats are clean as a whistle. You have to unscrew your upper O2 sensors, make sure you use copper antiseize on the threads. You have to start the truck up and let it run for a couple minutes to let it get hot(I did it 3 times, I know what I am talking about).

I still have them if you would want to buy them? As my forum name says,"Taco Pastor." I'm a pastor, I'm not gonna screw you over unless my guy was wrong. It's been month and I moved to MI from IL. They are not that rusted either. I will look again as they are in a tote in my truck to check there internal condition. I was gonna take them to the recycler but if I can help another TACOMA BRO I would be glad to.
But first, ABSOLUTELY TRY THAT STUFF ON AMAZON. Let it sit overnight and then drive it like a bat out of hades dude. It is a foam spray(the white can) and it will want to back out(foam up), but be patient and let it dissolve onto those hot/warm cat internals and it will dissolve. THEY HAVE TO BE HOT! I'm gonna us it once a year on mine. Before you take off, put the other can(the green can-you'll see what I mean) in the tank and FLY DOWN THE ROAD AND WATCH THE SMOKE POOOOUUUUR OUT!

Regeneration process means it regenerates it, it brings it back, it makes it alive again.

That's what Jesus does, we are dead spiritually and His death on the cross gives our dark and lifeless souls life again in Himself. Repent and believe and you can have eternal life.

Converters work by combining HC and CO to form CO2. A healthy converter can "store" some oxygen molecules to combine with the HC and CO as it passes through the exhaust.

If the converter is working correctly the oxygen readings will not be the same at the front and rear O2 sensors. The upstream sensor signal will be more active (with the fuel mixture) but the downstream sensor will be muffled or more of a "flat-line"

As Bishop mentioned, the graphing showed that the two sensor signals mirrored each other almost immediately. This shows that there isn't any oxygen molecules combining with HC and CO inside the converter. No work is being done in there. The converter is bad

No, but if you put a chicken head on your head I'm sure someone would be willing to oblige.

But great explanation of the upper and lower cats and the gas conversions.
