The dealer I ordered a 23 sport through said that it should be here in a couple months. They said it would be white which was one of my preferred colors. After seeing some of the problems people have had with the white paint on their tacomas Im wondering if I should wait and try to get a different color or if it should be fine and toyota fixed the underlying problem after it surfaced.

I haven’t followed the white paint saga closely, but I do know that a few people on Tacomaworld complaining about something does not turn it into an issue that Toyota (or most of the public) cares about.

2017’s are definitely affected. One or 2 reports of 2018’s having an issue. We won’t know about the 2023’s until 2028. Seems like at around the 5 year mark is when issues show up

I also put a deposit on an Ice Cap 2023 Tacoma OR. When I looked at the color code it was listed as 040 Super White 2. So Ice Cap is a 2nd version of Super White. Wondering myself if another color is in order. Only thing is my truck is a manual transmission.

I have a 2023 OR Ice Cap which I got in Feb. I would recommend a really good ceramic coating either done by a pro or by yourself. I used Optimum Gloss Coat and Opti-Seal refresh every 6 months or so.

It's sad cause that semi gloss white looks nice on 2nd and 3rd gen Tacos with the black trim pieces

My 20 has a couple of chips on the roof. I did my best to prime and dab a drop of the super white repair paint. Probably going to be okay. I just hope the clear coat doesn't start disappearing like on my wife's 11 Camry and most other Toyotas. I do follow the instructions on this which claim two coats last a year. Happy with the results.

Wax or washing will not help. It's a bonding issue to the primer. White has no traditional clear coat. It's mixed in with the white paint. So far the majority have been 2016-2017 Tacoma's out of the Mexico plant. Unconfirmed reports that Toyota addressed the issue at the factory sometime mid 2020. Check your vin. 5- Texas 3- Mexico. So far my 2020 040 has been fine. Mine was made in Texas. There have been a a few 2018 & 19's now. From the Mexico plant. Also, some 2nd gens have been affected as well.

Yes, it's been identified as a bonding issue so I think ceramic coating will just delay the inevitable. My 1993 Toyota truck was white...bullet proof paint. Never garaged and spent 2.5 years in New Jersey before driving it to California.

Thank you for saving me the typing........

The problem isn't from the surface down, it's 'underlying'. No topcoat will stop that.
