Brake light T Harness

I'm looking at picking up your t-harness to wire in my Leer camper shell: https://fbchs.square.site/product/t...true&sa=false&sbp=false&q=false&category_id=6

I need a 12v brake connection for my 3rd brake light on the shell (RED/WHT CHMSL), a ground and a 12v supply for my dome light. Which harness would work for this?

 

Brake T for the CHMSL and then you need ignition switched or constant power for the dome, assuming it has it's own switch. So you run fused power from the battery or T off the tow connector.

The 2020+ Tacomas have bed light wiring which is a great option but for 2015 you don't have anything good for the dome in the rear.

 

1. This is the blue wire from the brake T which will be labeled brake +
2. This would come from a tailgate lock T or tap or going into your doors to tap lock/unlock pulse wires
3. Constant or switched 12v power, ideally this might be tied to a cargo light switch but that's where you need a 2020+ to easily grab
4. Ground (can use the brake ground or a frame ground, I use a spot above the driver tire on the frame which has a solid bolt)
5. Same as 2 just unlock signal, always blue and green together
6. This for sure would be fused power from the battery or tow connector for aux lighting or potential low power stuff like a chase light which has a switch or maybe a small fan. Don't do a defroster on this, but if you supply it with 12 gauge fused from the battery it is probably fine for USB charging mounted to the shell and/or fridge power, etc.

 

Thank you, after doing a little more reading it appears some wire in the dome light to the parking wire on the tail light so that the dome can only be turned on if the headlights/parking lights are on. I'm going to order the T harness with this splice incase I decide to go this route or wire in directly to 12v.

I had a 2018and now have a 3rd Gen 2023. I was not aware there was a bed light harness. Where would this be located?
Also...looking to purchase a harness for a ARE Shell. It has a brake light and a switched dome. If there is bed light harness with constant power or switched from the dash then I would like to grab that, if not then I would grab it from your harness to function when the park lights are on.
Appreciate your input. Slowly building on my Tacoma knowledge.

unless your shell can work with a pop and lock and you get the Oem tailgate lock harness in which case the TAG might be an option:

Bed light connectors are inside your taillight cavity. Oem bed lights are a cheap and easy mod, very worthwhile if you don’t already have them.

The shell has a 3 prong flat trailer type connector. I guess best to cut that off and wire to the Deutsch connector?
Sorry for my ignorance on this matter. Mostly a small engine type guy.

 

The deutsch terminals are easy to crimp but you do get stuck buying the tool. I send a pigtail so you can cut and use heat shrink butt connectors, then you just need wire strippers and a heat gun or hair dryer to finish it all up.

Presumably brake, ground and dome are the 3 wires?

 

Yes sir, that is correct on the 3 wires.

And thank you for the info on the bed lights. Will also be ordering. The 2018 I had did not have that nice simple option.

 

Also Oem tailgate lock. I just bought these for a friend of mine who is doing work for me as a sweetener to get him back for more work
