Push Button Start....Doing it wrong

I'm reminded of this thread. This user's prototype seems hopeful.

Where do you insert the command code floppy disk?

 

I had to hold the start button down on my 1922 Essex until the engine started. Nice to see there has been some progress in the last 100 years.

 

Push button vs Hold button? who would have thought.

 

Yeah, they went from foot push starter to push button on dash which to me was easier than using the foot.
Also remember the high beam switch was also on the floor opposite side of the starter floor switch how we have come a long ways. just saying

 

Same with my '29 Plymouth but it was a floor-mounted starter switch which made it funner!

 

Now you inadvertently bump the automatic high beam button with your knee. The more things change...

 

Can't tell if you're serious or not, but it doesn't work that way.

Nope i got it figured out after the first day or two. (2016)
ALSO just so you know that if it is in drive, even going down the road you can SHUT OFF the engine by, holding the start button down for 2 to 5 seconds.

PS: It's in the manual also. You did read it, right?

■ Operation of the engine switch●When operating the engine switch, one short, firm press is enough. If the switch is pressed improperly, the engine may not start or the engine switch mode may not change. It is not necessary to press and hold the switch.


■ Stopping the engine in an emergency

If you want to stop the engine in an emergency while driving the vehicle, press and hold the engine switch for more than 2 seconds, or press it briefly 3 times or more in succession. (P. 501)
However, do not touch the engine switch while driving except in an emer- gency. Turning the engine off while driving will not cause loss of steering or braking control, however, power assist to the steering will be lost. This will make it more difficult to steer smoothly, so you should pull over and stop the vehicle as soon as it is safe to do so.

I’ve been trying to press and release the button as minimally as possible since reading this thread a few weeks ago.

Also I think this is my 50th post, time to sell some predator steps! Just kidding, it feels like every Tacoma I see already has them!

 

lol, 'doing it wrong?' if it starts, it starts, isn't that the entire function of the button? what difference does the length of the press matter?

i feel i need to start pressing it with my knee just in case using my finger is 'wrong' later...
