Hey so I recently purchased a Toyota Tacoma 2004 2wd 2.4l regular cab. I am super stoked to own it and am happy to see so much activity here on this site.
Anyways previously i owned a 1999 nissan pathfinder it was alright the timing belt broke and that was the end of her. It took nearly 2 months of looking at the classifieds alot of energy spent with intention on getting a nissan hardbody. But I was fortunate enough to have a funding source come along and I was able to get whatever I could find within a reasonable amount, as a loan of course. My mind instantly went to getting a Tacoma. So I started looking, I knew what the Tacoma I would want looked like in my mind. I thought of a gen 1 with a lift and some bigger tires, color didn't really matter. Well thank god color didnt matter cause I came across one already known by previous owner as "Goldie". A 2004 manual 2wd 2.4l. it's had several previous owners and a rebuilt title. I was stoked!
So Goldie has a pretty shotty paint job done by last owner, a good latch that only worked until I looked under the hood when I first went to look at her and then never layched down again (until I replaced the latch), a stereo that had and still doesn't have power, both outside door handles broke off, front grill and bumper issues(Jimmy rigged up in more than a couple ways),And puny lil tires(only a few months old).
I would say I go back and forth with buyers remorse. Cause I don't have any mechanic in me, and most of the time I think I should have just kept looking for one with a lift and bigger tires already on it with 4 wheel drive and a V6.
With all that said, I'm not disappointed. With a few things needing to be addressed in order to make ol.goldie here anything like what my brain could come up with prior to her purchase, I will be on a budget for sure. I can't stop thinking about getting bigger tires for her went to the junk yard today looking for a set and of course looking on classifieds. I found a set of 5 lug 4.5 stock jeep rims with 235/75/r15s on them for a decent price probably just end up plastidipping them. I have the door handles arriving tomorrow we will see how easy those go in. And I bought a pioneer avh double din aftermarke stereo tried putting that in but the stock had no power to it and this pioneer also has no power to it I have changed out all the fuses with new ones except the relays. The constant wire has power and this graph I posted is what I went off of to wire it in, when originally I just tried matching the colours up because that's all I did when I hooked up the same type of pioneer stereo in my pathfinder, but the stereo still doesn't work...

To sum it all up, I don't regret purchasing Goldie it's just going to take a lil time and more energy trying to figure out the stereo and what tires and rims I want and can afford, as well as getting her a better paint job which I plan on doing myself. I resurface countertops so I have access to paint compressor and all that, probably need to get a gun that sprays a lil finer than what we use at work. I'm just stoked to finally own a Tacoma and to be a part of this seemingly strong online community here at tcw. I sometimes feel like a poser driving my 5 lug 2.4l when I see some of the builds around town, but hell I still have one and I look forward to what comes across my path as far as upgrades, information, and advice from anyone on here to make me and Goldie journey a smooth ride onwards and upwards..
