265/70/17 or 275/70/17?

    Hello guys,

    I have quick question about tire size. I have 2020 Tacoma TRD sport stock suspension. Try to get new wheels with -12 offset. Do you guys think i can fit 275/70/17 tires with this wheels?

    Yes, with -12 offset you will probably rub on mudflaps and fender liners though.

    Anything will fit if your willing to do extra work. Bone stock that -12 offset on the 275 will make a ton of rub. My 265/70/17s rubbed with a -12 offset. Your mileage may vary, but I think the 275 -12 combo needs more than just an alignment to get away from rubbing.

    Nothing. They're the ideal size if you want the easy route.


    Also remember that stock or a lift has no bearing on tires size as the thing still needs to fit at full uptravel.

    I have +12mm Vision Manx IIs on 275/70/17s and zero rub under 99% of on road and off road driving conditions. No CMC and zero trimming. At full stuff with the steering maxed out I will rub the plastic inner fender minimally. It is negligible.

    OME-005 Heavy 2.5 in lift
    SPC UCAs
    * Alignment: LCAs maxed out to push the wheels forward as much as possible, UCAs dialed in after the LCA adjustments were maxed out. Running ~4 deg caster. Pics over here in a recent thread if you want to see how my rig looks with the tires/wheels.

    So I have a 17x9 -12 wheel. I put on a 265/70/17 because everyone says 'easy mode - no rub'. With everything else stock the rub was significant (with no mud flaps). I trimmed the plastic at the bottom using a dremel, reshaped the lower part of the liner with a heat gun, and maxed the alignment out forward. This got rid of the rub except when stuffed, reversing, and turning all at once. I now have SPC UCAs and a good alignment and never rub (and a mild lift but the lift doesn't help during articulation). A bit of rubbing isn't the end of the world. If you don't have a dremel and a heat gun this is a good excuse to buy tools that are handy for an infinite number of projects. If you do have the tools it is probably an hour job at worst.

    I've heard every truck is different and I believe it. I also consider my wheels one of my worst purchases. I would go with a narrower wheel with a +0 offset if I were to do it over. The slight poke isn't worth the increased scrub radius, not to mention the increased mud on the sliders and doors. On the other hand, since I've got most of the setup for 285s and the wheels are 9" wide my next tires will be bigger.
