Its still a sellers market, this isn't pre-pandemic where buyers controlled everything. Nothing wrong with deposits if you put it on a credit card and able to get a chargeback.

I'm not going to read all 3 pages, but will say this. DO NOT put down a non refundable deposit. If a dealer says you have to, go to another dealer as they are showing they DGAF about their customers.
If you are having to wait for a truck to be delivered, that means the market is already in the dealers favor and they can sell it quickly even if you back out.
How do you think they will handle you for warranty or service????

That $500 non-refundable deposit is risky as you don't know which dealer will be allocated the truck that is requested by the dealer. When shopping I had (3) refundable $500 deposits and (1) non-refundable $1,000 deposit within dealers to not have my eggs all in one basket. Long story short on the non-refundable deposit is I found them a buyer for that truck (arrived 5 months later) and got refunded. The buyer and I talk weekly about Tacoma mods lol. But flying and driving is the way to go if you are seeking a specific truck - especially a manual transmission or the PRO.

I put a deposit in with a dealer who told me he would sell it to me for MSRP, when the truck came in he suddenly told me he never promised me anything and he’s going to charge me $5000 over MSRP and take my deposit if I don’t like it so I told him I’d call my credit card. He refunded my deposit and I bought the truck from someone else.

I may be stating the obvious here but any dealer will provide warranty or service work. I bought my first Tacoma in Asheville (I live near Charlotte) and had a warranty issue resolved at a Charlotte dealer. They were glad for the work since they get paid by Toyota. But I agree, if a dealer is underhanded on not wanting to refund a deposit, they are likely gonna try to take advantage of customers whenever possible. Has anyone ever had a problem getting warranty work done at a dealer other than where they bought the truck?

If I didn't have a vin or a temporary vin right now. I'd be jumping on a plane to get a truck. Especially if you want something specific. When I found my PRO manual T in December there were about 65 on autotrader now I think there are 13. Move on your trucks, you can't "wait and see". ..

In God we trust, all others we track.
