Not a problem! I will say.. and I found myself again just recently telling myself this.. it is nice to have a "beater" that is just meant to be for transportation. Meaning.. I know my little truck still needs some work here and there.. and more recently.. I think the tierods and or something else related needs some attention.. BUT.. its a cheap little truck that doesnt owe me anything and it gets me to and from. The random noises, clunks, etc dont bother me like they do/have on the Taco. For lack of a better term... its nice to not have to care as much having an older vehicle like that. lol It, the pickup also doesnt care.. No electronic BS, no other fancy shit to worry about.. it just runs. low oil, low PS fluid, excessive slop in components, probably a dry ass rear diff and leaking axle seals... it just keeps on truckin!

Since you're in Flag... screw the AC then. If you're sticking around town up there.. the 4 speed would probably be fine as well. If you can get him down to say around 6-6500.. that would be a good come-up at that point.

My first truck (and toyota) was a 1988 4x4 pickup, it had a 22RE and a 5 speed manual. I sold it when I bought my first '06 Tacoma and moved to Phx in 2009 and I've always kicked myself for getting rid of it. This minitruck would fufill some nostalgia that I long for with these older trucks. The interior looks nearly identical to my old '88. And I like the idea of having a 22R instead of the RE.
If this does happen I might throw a locker in the rear diff to be able to still use it in the winter (and some FS roads up here). I'm thinking the $6,000-$6,500 price point is about right too.

Sometimes I do wish I had Fuel Injection, but damn a carb'd 22R just sounds so good. lol I want to add a street locker to mine as well. Whenever I decide to tear into the rear diff and axle seals that was my plan. Just for fun.. but yeah, the rear traction when wet is hilarious... lol

I totally get the nostalgia aspect.. part of the reason I wanted this one as well.. same color as one of my Dads Yota pickups. Keep me posted and let me know if you have any other questions.

Yeah, the auto trans is one of the only things not going for that one.

Good day hanging with @prise and Juanito. Got the truck back together. New Steeda tensioner was definitely a pita and tedious to get swapped in. Had to unbolt and move the Alternator and AC Compressor out of the way. Just held out of the way with wire. Pulley wrap mod seems to be working well. All belts went on no problem. The new Steeda tensioner does take up some more room and gets close to the fan clutch, but seems to be just fine. Getting a 1/2” ratchet into the Steeda requires an extension, which then put the ratchet too close to the fan clutch to get out after the tensioner and belt were in place. Had to loosen the 4 bolts for the fan to get enough room to get the ratchet out. A different ratchet combo/setup would probably work without having to do that. Engine runs much smoother and quieter with all the new bearings now. KOH will be the shakedown...

New header to Y pipe gaskets... needless to say.. I had some pretty nasty exhaust leaks. Taco sounded like shit... Mucho better now.

Got a little too rowdy in the fast stuff and found a weak point in the rear bumper. Sending the arm to BAMF today.. apparently its only the 2nd one he's seen this happen to. Combo of 35 spare tire + weight on a built truck really getting after it for 4 days.. it didnt like it too much. cracked it. he's fixing and beefing up others going forward.

I need to learn its not meant for that shit anymore.. lol but everything else did handle it all very well! I was surprised. Front end did great and so did the rear.. just too much weight and shit being tossed around back there on the bumper.

nope! that was it really. broke a couple more clips on the rear flares but those needed replaced anyways so going to pull both and redo them really nice and more secure. Used the entire passenger side slider on one obstacle as well as used all the skids during a couple points and candy stripped the driveshaft again ever so slightly. Think I'm going to send off my wheels to OMF for beadlock conversions too.. Kept burping air during certain situations in the rocks, front and rear. The weight over the rear helped sometimes.. but it also made for the burping of air when getting into certain tricky spots. Overall the truck did fantastic.. good times for sure!
