Honestly, 8k is plenty for most of the things we do... you only need 12k when things get stupid. I have experience with this, thus I have a 12k winch... Just wait for the Wisco Moab trip...

8k is plenty. Plus you can always use a snatch block. I think most people on here don’t understand math and physics so think they need a 12k minimum

Would backing up into a tree when I have 3 mirrors and a backup camera be defined as stupid?

I understand physics, ratings, snatch blocks, etc. but this is why I don't necessarily want the 8k version on the Taco. The thing I may or may not be buying already has the 8k but seller is separating so I don't necessarily have to take it. Ultimately I was planning a 12k in the future because I want to help myself but also other members of the group who like to have more "fun" than me.

But now that I'm typing this comment I remembered my Jeep XJ will need a winch and the 8k fits that one a bit better so I might just grab it anyways...

Nope, them dang trees come outta nowhere sometimes. Ninja Oaks are the most sneaky, they'll get ya!

    I wouldn't go that far.

Most of us use the tree to let us know not to go deeper...
    :itllbuffout:

Some go between the trees and get far more stucker.

Just put my recovery gear to good use helping the mail man get out of the ditch a few houses down. It was one of those deals where he just put two wheels off the road and sank in. And the more he tried to rock it out the deeper it went.
For the record there is no good attachment points on the front of a Grumman LLV. Ended up using 2 soft shackles to wrap around the frame behind the front bumper to attach a strap to. From there it was an easy pull to get him out.

Perspective is everything. When I was but a small child my parents who didn't like to travel made it a big deal to go "up North" when we visited relatives.

"Up north" was Sheboygan. We lived in Milwaukee

That is exactly why I have a block heater. I don't use it often but it is handy since I park outside.
BTW block heaters are cheap and easy to install. Even someone who just just purchased a spanking new cap can afford one!

Okay, explain it to me. I looked into this at one time and as I recall Toyota makes it a PITA to do the factory one. What you got?

    This is what I did:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/block-heater.591203/page-3#post-22010494

The 3.5L in the 3rd gen has a bore on the driver side next to the transmission bell housing for the heater to slip into. Not sure if the 2nd gens have the same or not.

Edit: Just looked it up and the same part fits the 4.0L as well.

I've noticed a few changes in the Android Auto display lately and I stumbled upon this today on my drive home. You can tile apps on the screen now, so I can have maps up and my tunes from SoundCloud! Sweet!
