    Anyone in Houston.

Be leery if you take your vehicle to Autonation Gulf Fwy.

*Ive never had any major work there done ever. Straight bs how someone misses a key plug like that.

I can't even fathom how they would have checked the fluid level with it like that.

    No plug?? Holy shat
Glad it was an obvious find - make them take full responsibility for that.

Had a feeling you were in the fire service too when I read 24 hr shift.

This just got unreal. Good thing you’re on guard and thought to look under your truck, a lot of people just wouldn’t have noticed till the vehicle would stop running.

I’d ask them to clean all around the rear A/T seal, as it looks like it could be dripping, also check the front too, it should all be dry.

    Cheers!

Yessir, heading straight to the dealer after my shift in the morning.

Either leaving w my truck or politely demanding for a loaner. I dont care if its a van. I just need to be at work and not use any emergency/sick time due to their f*** up.

    Feb 4th.
Picked up the truck, so far so good, fluids replaced, tranny plug back in. Took about an hour this afternoon and ran the truck in the driveway… inspected everything. No noticeable leaks or random noises.

(Even ran through S mode & I never use it lol)

Ill have to pull out my file that contains my Platinum Warranty Card with all the fine print on the back. Pretty sure it explicitly states anything dealing with the cooling system is not covered or something to that degree.

I just read it. Unfortunately it states "lines and tubes" as not covered.

I have to say I have not had the coolant tube leak nor timing cover leak.
However if I do and from what I read what is entailed, removing the engine, and the cost to replace this, I would seriously reconsider another brand other than Toyota in the future. Hate to say it but it seems like the quality on the plastic pipe is something that should not fail after just a few years. And also to have continuing issues on the timing cover leak is unacceptable also. Quality control and design is definitely lacking in these areas and costing customers big money. I would expect something like this from Chevy or Ford.

What did the shop say / explain about that debacle. I could be wrong here, but I don't think that the AT even needed to be drained for the work?

Did they offer anything? Extended warranty on the AT, etc. That was a pretty massive SNAFU.

They had the truck picked up from my fire station. When I picked it up the paper work stated “customer found/noticed leak” rather than “fill plug was not placed” so that pissed me off to the point where I felt I had no choice but to email corporate and file a complaint. Forwarded all emails/photos etc.

I've worked on aircraft repairs. Often they say something similar. "Miss Drilled Hole Found." Like, WTF!? Snively is over there with snicker on his face and a drill bit hiding in his back pocket . . .

That is shocking that they didn't have something for you immediately, with something honest written on the WO. At least you got the dated pics.

Really disappointing considering I spoke w the head of their service dept and stated I didn't want anyone to get in trouble, just to make things “right” no one should have to leave w their vehicle and have major shit like that over looked…

What if it was someones child or an elderly who didnt know better and the tranny locked up on the freeway etc?

It’s the principle of the work ethic not completed then lying about it to CYA.

You are 100% correct. It looks like they just wanted to sweep it under the rug.

When the fluid level drops too far, I believe that it just doesn't move, like it is in neutral, versus locking up.

I can understand that, but you also know what has gone on. If you get brushed off, that would definitely raise a question or two though. But then, some folks have posted about not being able to move while in gear without much being said about issues down the road. Since you didn't have an issue while driving, you might have gotten away lucky.

I'd be looking for some free, no-questions-asked warranty on the AT at a minimum.
