Hey guys, so here’s the deal. My 97 xtra cab 3.4 4x4 auto truck has been to two different shops now and neither can seem to get it aligned. The one shop kept it for a week and said they could get it close, drive it down the road about a mile and back, put it back on the rack and it would be out again. And it’s not just a little bit out, it wore a set of newer tires with about 75% tread to wire showing in 2 days.

Before all this happened I replaced upper and lower ball joints, inner and outer tie rod ends, sway bar links, rotors, and brake pads.

I’ve got a feeling it possibly might be the camber bolts but I haven’t verified that and that’s just a guess at this point. Any suggestions or info would be greatly appreciated.

    * the second shop that had it for a week is the same one I take all my other vehicles to. So I feel confident they knew what they were doing.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
If you have a copy of the numbers it should point you in the correct direction.

Just because a shop has a fancy computer controlled rack does not mean they know how to use it.

The fact 2 shops can not tell you the what the problem is plus destroy decent tires as well.

    Does not bode well!!

    Best of luck!!

Knowing what they are able to align it to and then where it ends up after it is driven may help point to the problem. Also what part of the tire was worn to the belt and how many miles it took may be helpful to know as well. Why did you take it in for an alignment in the first place? What work has been done recently?

If they can't tell you why they can't align it, you should never darken their door again.

A good alignment tech can tell you every part that needs attention for him to be able to properly do his job.

A perfect example of a simple thing a good shop would just tell you about or ask permission to replace. Why are you guessing?

I'm thinking your confidence may be misplaced. At least in this area of their work. I hope for your sake I'm wrong.
