I only have one cousin and he's never felt the need to keep in touch. But my wife has (seems like) hundreds. A few are close... We've lost one so far. Sorry to hear about your loss. Take care.

    Evening all:
You too, happens to me all the time! Funny thing is, almost immediately after I shut down the computer, I remember what I was going to Google, well, at least I would say 90% of the time, the other 10% takes a little longer!

A couple of years ago I lost my sister by auto accident. First day I was kind of in shock second when it hit me and I was really down, looking out the window that evening I saw fireflies I jumped up went outside and there they were fireflies. That was the first and last time I have seen fireflies on this property. It made me think of us chasing fireflies as kids putting them in a mason jar. Somehow it was just what I needed.

What happens when you have a Car Show after an Ice Storm? EVERYBODY wants out of the house, and no more firewood! Packed house - aisles filled and low Feb sun made it kind of hard for pics today. People parked everywhere, and anywhere; so no line of Vettes, Chargers, etc. Even had BMW in the middle of the Toyota. And this THING parked next to me! But here they are.

OK, that's all except for Toyota trucks that most of you have seen before. Not a great bunch of pics, but hey! It's February. There was a car show in the sunshine!

I was gonna say.....and I'm too lazy to find the original - but our Sunroom mini-split, really can do nothing below 32*. Starts struggling at 40*. But I turn on the oil room heater at 40*, and will go get a little ceramic at 32*.

I'm really pumped about this series. "All Creatures..." may well be the most seriously accurate of any TV show or Movie in my memory, in all respects. Usually, in any movie, you can scoff at inaccurate props and movie sets and phony story lines. While this story is predictable, that's the only thing some might hold against it, but in an excellent way. The story began very low key, right about the time Germany annexed Austria, this is the 3rd season, so history buffs will certainly want to see this series, I'm sure. Something of a buff myself, I can see what's coming for this very beautiful little country town in the near future, and even to the how and when... (spoiler) probably early next season. Should there be any other buffs who would share my passion for this Masterpiece series, keep your Kleenex at hand... Oh, so you know, Wakefield, Yorkshire plays large in my ancestry, and I myself came into this world during the Battle of Britain.

Lynn and I enjoy the series, too. Our local PBS station had an advance preview of this season's opener at a local theater and we went. It was great to see it on the big screen.

Good morning fellow Porchatonians!! Internet has been fairly stable...but slower than our old AOL account. On the good side, only a month and a half before our repair appointment.

Good morning porch pals, I really enjoyed the car show pictures, we have a monthly car show for 4 months in the summer. Not as many newer cars mostly older 50's- 80's some scattered newer ones. this makes me want to have our 2.5' of snow gone.

Last year we had 'The Great Race' came through and ended in Fargo. That was a interesting collection of cars and concept all timed and the winner was the one who kept it as close to the set time set for all the legs. So each car had a driver and a navigator. Each car had a designated start time and got the map a few minutes before go. That was a learning experience getting to talk with the contestants. Many husband and wife or other family members and good friends started out, now some are professional rally team's.

Thank you for all the concerns. There are 4 of us cousins that are really close. He was the first to pass on at 73 YO. I have known him for 73 years. I am also 73. Like many of us in this age group my mom and dad made efforts to visit their brothers and sisters every year, so us cousins are really close.

Good morning. Today is a foot doctor appointment in the late AM then home to make another batch of tomato soup.

    Morning all:

Thanks for posting the car show pics. Kurt, there are a lot of cool cars and trucks out there.

I had mentioned this before, on the car porn thread on here there are some awesome pictures of cars and trucks. I always check out that thread for new entries and have looked at every post from page 1!

When we bought Mrs. SpruceMica's previous car (before she had a smartphone) she insisted on factory navigation which meant an overpriced option package to get it. The first time we went on an out of state trip to visit her college roommate I asked for directions. She pulled a sheet of paper out of her purse with the directions written out :annoyed:
I was less than thrilled. By the next trip she was a navigation system expert.

I still have my CURTA (peppermill-looking calculator), sold off my Halda Twin Master ($2500 raised for Micheal J Fox foundation).

For the "great race," neither was allowed, only pencil and paper. So contestants go to great lengths calibrating speedometers. One trick to remember is longitude/latitude. In California, straight roads had an odd jog every seven miles. Had to do with when parcels were divided and assigned, and roads came later (along property lines) so you have a distinct landmark to get odometer readings. Told to head down that country road at 35 mph, flip inverse of 60 factors, and so 1.7212 minutes per mile. Old Halda watches had minutes * 100ths, so it made it easy. It's a near-perfect 12 minutes to cover those 7 miles. As go further north, that jogs are closer, but will make sense.

Thankfully my old plane had a low stall speed with full flaps. Made it easy to overfly grass strips and count seconds. 60 mph, eight seconds, 88 ft per second, 704 feet. Needed 600 ft for takeoff, so if it went over a lake, or river that was plenty of room (depending on the wind).

I enjoyed the math and mental game work, so it was fun.

:pccoffee:  sixtys/wannabes/cars-n-coffee-ers. I LOL'd at @CTSpruceMica and his wife's paper directions. If I let her, my wife would still drag one of those enormous road atlases around with us when we travel!

We keep an atlas in each car. You would not believe the "roads" the GPS has suggested we take. As though they are roads...
