Had a little off-road oops...

So I went wheeling with one of my buddies and I was going thru so pretty deep mud holes and the truck shut off on its own in the middle of the hole end up winching out started it up drove it felt sluggish tho like I was loosing power so I pulled over got it pulled home before it got any worse immediately drained the oil turned out there was water in the engine coolant still looked clean put in 3qts of new oil and some oil cleaner same filter started it up to make it idle for 5 minutes to get all the bad stuff out but it knocked in the beginning then it idled without a problem no knock for 10 sec then started hearing a metal to metal screeching noise and truck shut off on it own now truck still starts up but with screeching noise but I’m gonna try putting the full 5qt and see if that changes anything if you have anymore ideas pls throw em at me anything would help at this point THANK YOU!!!
Note:I have a trd supercharger with enclosed air filter

 

You drained the oil and only put 3 quarts in? WTF?

 

I hate to break it to you.
But I suspect internal damage has occurred.

Using the same oil filter didn’t help any.

Maybe pull the belt off and hope you have a bad pulley.
But I doubt it. May luck be with you.

 

It was to make it idle and clean out everything then I was gonna change out the oil completely with top off

 

Your engine needs enough oil to operate, running with not enough is... not enough...

Do a complete oil change and see what happens.


having a pully suddenly fail after mud is not uncommon either, but damn... don't starve the engine of oil by not putting enough in it.

 

Sounds like you hydrolock your engine.

 

If you got water into the crankcase after ingesting water into the intake, the block probable is damaged. Water won't compress so it'll get forced somewhere when the engine tries to compress it.
It'll either break a piston, rods, block etc.i honestly hope I'm wrong. But what you're describing doesn't sound good at all.

 

3 quarts should have been plenty oil to just idle without damage, it sounds more like you sucked in water and hydrolocked or partially hydrolocked the engine. If that is the case more than likely it bent a rod and/or cracked a piston.
You may want to pull the oil filter, cut it open and look for metal in it, if there is metal in it you have engine damage somewhere.

 

In the meantime, take your entire supercharger kit off. I have a guy here who will put it on his truck to make sure it works properly.

 

This reminds me of the dude with the mustang that ran a hose through the engine to clean out the oil while the engine was running…..

Your insurance company MAY cover it, you'll need to read your policy carefully.

It was way more than a "Little Off Road Oops".

I wish it wasn't but by all indicators it is a Hydro-locked engine.

I'm sure everyone here is hoping we are wrong, but it doesn't take much water in a cylinder to lock it and break pistons etc. If you have water in the oil something broke.

 

While you're at it make sure they reconnect/calibrate the connection between your brain-wallet-skinny pedal. Just a suggestion, don't ask anyone to hold your beer.

 

Most likely hydro locked engine...Lessen learned...Please let us know the outcome.

 

Knocking is usually a symptom of metal on metal contact which is never good - even for short periods of time. The fact that this was followed by a metal to metal screeching noise is especially troubling.

Just out of curiosity, does the TRD supercharger have a separate oil supply which may have been contaminated too? If it does, one part of me says you may have only ruined the supercharger. The other part of me says that if you went metal on metal in the supercharger, all of that debris would have gone straight into the engine and wiped it out too.

I'd run a quick compression test and cross my fingers for the results. My bet is that you ingested water and hydro-locked the motor as others have said. That's never good.

 

Look through salvage yards for used engines, for example Car-part.com and filter by region.
