Hey guys, I’m searching for locking hubs for my 95.5, I’ve tried MM and warn hubs, and I’ve been looking around but nothing seems like it will fit. It looks like my CV axle isn’t long enough, or the hubs’ splines need to stick out into the pit around the exposed axle splines.

The only thing I’ve been able to find online is this thread https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/1995-tacoma-locking-hub.520410/ which has two photos of hubs that look like they’d fix my problem, but no listed part numbers or sources for the hubs.

My other option at this point is to weld a section of splined CV axle onto the end of my axle and run a long bolt through it.

I really don’t want to do that but currently I have no 4wd, and I’m using a bolt and washer to keep the axle from bouncing around in the bearing.

So if anyone has some insight into this it’d be greatly appreciated.

    What's your issue exactly?

Did you make sure to install the lock ring on your cv axle after running it through your wheel hub? If you put it on prior, your cv axle won't come through all the way and will leave you "short".

That thread you linked has a member posting pictures of a Pick Up set of hubs; being 95.5 you have a Tacoma.

Aisin FHT-019 is what you want and is available from many reputable places. Think Rockauto was the cheapest last I saw.

Got me going through my cloud to pull up old pics but this is how it should look with your cv axle through the wheel hub -

This is the lock ring that some people accidentally install prior to running it through their wheel hub -

That sits in the "slot" on your cv axle shaft, in front of your wheel hub. Putting it on beforehand will limit your cv axle from being fully seated.

It is found under the hub assembly however. Here the hub body is installed with the cover and dial removed.

And again, the correct hubs for 1st Gen Tacomas -

Though I've rebuilt several since they're serviceable.

Are you trying to convert an ADD truck without manual hubs to manual hubs? Unfortunately you need the whole wheel bearing and manual hub CVs. You cannot just install manual hubs.

Warn makes several sets of Toyota hubs but most will not fit a Tacoma, which PN do you have?

Here is what a manual hub CV looks like

Seeing these photos helped me so much. It’s hard to find media of those Aisin hubs engaging and all the photos I’ve seen on sites selling them and forums, etc. make it look like the spline housing is inlaid into the hub rather than poking out into the CV “pit”.

The hubs I have are a direct replacement for the hubs that were on the truck when I bought it. The way they engage is the clutch brings the outer ring gear down onto the spline, rather than pushing the spline down onto the axle.

I lost the snap ring and the CV washer on one side because they were so worn down due to my original hubs busting they didn’t seem worth keeping, so I’ll need to source those.

I’m ordering aisin hubs and I will update this thread when I install them for anyone in my situation in the future.
