I know what you are talking about. I stopped deer hunting a couple years ago due to back problems. I hunt rugged wilderness areas high in the sierras (7500’) and my back just couldn’t take it. And hauling/dragging a deer in that country will cripple me. Walking out to my duck blind through thick mud is getting problematic also.

Good on you for confronting her. Unauthorized who park in disabled parking spaces make me crazy, totally piss me off.

Im not diabetic but have extensive knowledge on it. Diabetic control is key to preventing complications and living a long and normal life. Good on you too Kurt.

A little something every chance we get.
    Thanks!

I do feel bad for you and @boatswain re the hunting experience. It's tough when the love of what you do becomes a chore. I have a friend who spends a lot of time in the wild - birding, fancy pictures! Maybe with all your experience, hauling a lighter load and getting a different (but related) trophy is something to consider! I bet you both love good wildlife shots! (pun intended!)

I love all the discussion about navigation and maps, I am a navigation geek. Many years ago I was the navigator as a Naval Flight Officer on the P3 Orion participating on ICEX 85 flying out of Thule Greenland doing ASW research exercises over the northern ice pack. In those days we did not have GPS, but relied on inertial, dead reckoning and the compass. Interesting factoid- at the North Pole ALL directions are south, the compass just spins and longitude on the inertial spins as fast as the compass.

    Interesting. Couple of related questions:
1 - How far south of the pole would you have to get to be able to rely on the compass again?
2 - Was there a relationship between altitude and the magnetic field?

Carl: In the last state legislation session a "RETIRED" tax credit was made law. My wife and I qualified for the $1750 credit. This made for a nice state refund. Sorry your hunting partner is having back problems. I hope he gets better.

Tom, thank you for taking part in the clinical study. My lunch partner has Parinson's and is not getting better. I hear you on the parking. We have 2 spots by the Gym entrance and a lot of times there is a car parked there with no tags or placard. I am about to embark on a campaign to have the shopping center add more space.

Good morning. Warmer here this morning at 41 degrees. Going to my niece's home with my wife this morning. My wife wants to see the morning routine for the baby so she can cover the baby sitting while my sister is on a well-deserved vacation. Also, I have a planned Costco trip in the plans for the morning. ;) We leave at 08:15, early.

    Good morning fellow Porchatonians!!!

I started my initial military career in the Marine's PLC program - contracted to be an NFO in an E6B. Ran head-0n into the post Vietnam cutbacks and somehow, amazingly, 40 of us in the flight track were diagnosed with borderline high blood pressure and washed out. Given the option to go to the Ground Officer track but took my Honorable Discharge from the USMC as a PV1 and transitioned into Army ROTC. It all worked out well, anyway.

    Be safe out there!!

Silly me, I thought I was the only one here who'd gone through the PLC program. :p

To be totally honest, I only went through the first 6 week phase before being NPQ'd for the flight program.

I did the first six weeks as well, but my story is a bit different.

I got flim-flammed by an aggressive recruiter in La Mesa, CA and the next thing I knew, I was on a bus to MEPS in El Segundo, processed, and in MCRD San Diego the same freakin' day. My car was still in the parking lot of the recruiting office, I had a job, a girlfriend, and an apartment; I managed to make a call to my grandmother from El Segundo to let her know what happened and she arranged with my girlfriend's family to call my boss, get my stuff, and get it stored. I was so annoyed by the way I ended up enlisted I beat the bushes while in San Diego and found out if you apply for, qualify for, and are accepted into any program which leads to a higher rank, then all previous obligations are waived. I applied for the PLC program the next day; this being in the 1970s, it shouldn't come as much of a surprise to anyone to hear I got a bit roughed up by the DIs and other stray NCOs on base; I stood my ground. On a day when we were scheduled for a 30 mile march in the Coronado sand, I got pulled out of my bunk early and taken to the CO's office and given the Officer Candidate Entrance exam, and then while the Company was still out marching, they took me back to the barracks, had me pack my stuff, took me in a Jeep around the fence to Lindbergh Field, and on to a PSA 727 to LAX. From there I joined a group of Candidates on an overnight charter flight to Dulles, and the next thing I knew, I was at Camp Upshire in Quantico.

When I graduated from the first half of OCS I was sure I'd made the right decision as I too was an aviation candidate and I really wanted to fly. Unfortunately the union I was associated with went on strike during the summer between my sophomore and junior year of college, and I needed to move up to Los Angeles for my new job; this in turn forced me to miss 1 semester of college, and the next thing I knew, I was disenrolled from the PLC program. Long story short, the way I entered the military was annoying, and the way I exited was even more so. o_O

For those if us that are not conversant in fluent Acronym, how about spelling it out the first time? PLC? NPQ?
    (And now MEPS, MCRD...)

IRHATIHTLU. (I really hate acronyms that I have to look up)
    IFR... (pardon my French)

    Morning all:

That's interesting, never heard that. I think one of the guys I drove to work with was stationed at Thule, if I remember correctly, he mentioned some type of large cavern where UFO's supposedly were being sighted going in and out, of course always denied, but surrounded by surveillance equipment! That was a long time ago and he has since passed, ever hear that mentioned while you were there?

:rain: Good Morning Porch Pals & Sue! Sitting here at AutoNation for the RAV4 15K service at 13.8k. Only reason to book it was they called and offered a free oil change if I came in. It's been a little over a year - I don't like going longer regardless of miles. So rotate, and some checks are all 15k calls for. Copy that in email to my service advisor. First appointment lost to the ice. Make it here hour earlier. Service advisor asks what I'm here for. FREE oil chang per Martha, rotate, and the little check on list I emailed . So, $39.95 oil change and rotation? No, FREE oil change. SIGH. Maybe I will have to go to North Austin to get a good dealer. Cedar Park Toyota did real well for my son recently. That's a long trip tho!

Not from the area, what is the volunteer parking enforcement program? I noticed the make of the car, you tangled with a privileged one. I've had a Karen follow me 10 blocks to chew my ass because I didn't let her murge in front of me when she had her face buried in her phone for 3 blocks when her lane ended. I just explained I don't give passes to people on their phones. I've been rear ended 3x's by people on phones at light's and stop signs. Seams like when you follow one they are all over the road. I would rather have the accident waiting to happen behind me than in front of me.
