I managed to get these bars installed this past weekend but definitely ran into some issues getting them to work properly with the specific bed cover that I have. The brackets for the bars are BakFlip specific with the relocation of the track rails in the bed so I imagined the installed was pretty straight forward. To say the least, it was not. The solution I finally arrived at was cutting gaps in the black plastic rails that run along the sides of the bed. This allowed the brackets to sit flush so that the bed cover would click into place when closing like it should.

Has anyone else installed these with an MX4 cover? I've seen installed pics and it appears that the owners didn't have to do any cutting but I couldn't figure out how to not cut and still have cover work properly.

I do have pics of the issues I ran into if people reply and want to see.

I reached out to BB today to ask if I’d have to do any trimming and they stated that it was hit or miss with the Billie Bar/Bakflip combo. Apparently trimming is required with certain model #’s. Waiting to hear back from them on which model numbers do require trimming. Post pics if you can. I’d be curious to see what all you had to do to get them to work.

I would like to know more about this as I'm thinking this would be my preferred setup. Any pics? Thanks.

Here are my pics. I had to cut the rubber trim under where the brackets sit on the bed rail. With a gap between the flush rubber on the mx4 rails, I bought some 3/4” by 1/4” thick foam with one sided adhesive which helped remove the gap.

I took my time and folks at @BillieBars were great and helped by sending pics of their installs with BB and mx4.

    I’m having issues installing mine!

Once I had the brackets installed, I trimmed up top those little rubber stripping.

When I try to shut the cover, some sections won’t “click” down and lock. It’s as if my rails are shifted or misaligned now.

Does your MX4 have the relocated rails like mine?

    Any tips?

Hi - I had this issue as well. Just had to make sure the pieces on the bed where they bend are properly seated in its tubing. That could cause the bed to appear popped up. As for misalignment if those fittings are properly seated means that the bars aren't properly installed.

I had to trim the following areas:

    - the actual black stock plastic trim on the bed had to be trimmed about 1/4" so the billiebar bracket would move vertically up enough. I used a dremmel to shave underneath the plastic. If it can't go up, then it won't sit properly horizontally on the bed.
    - then the rubber trim on the bakflip around the brackets.

    Where are you located?

Maybe we could a facetime and I can show you some things

I was able to get everything to line up.

I trimmed the rubber UNDER too directly where the brackets were installing. Didn't need to trim or cut or grind down metal.

Just for some install tips for anyone looking to future install with relocated utility trails...

    • Start off with removing the tri-fold entirely from the bed. You cannot install the BB without moving and wiggling the track that holds the cover in place
    • Place the brackets on all four corners and use some masking tape to lock in the placement of the bars and how they sit flush with the bed.
    • Remove the brackets and trim exactly where the rubber is on the Bakflip rails not only on top where they go over the brackets but also directly opposite underneath. This allows you to add some play with the brackets if you can rock back and forth.
    • Put everything in place, mount all hardware but do NOT tighten. Just enough to keep snug and if you need to wiggle or shift things it is easy.
    • Close the tonneau cover and make sure all panels click and lock into place. Adjust by shifting, pushing, pulling until fitment is right.
    • Lock down all hardware (bracket bolts, rail bolts) when cover is closed so you can ensure alignment

Here are some pictures from my install today.

I opted to cut into the plastic on the bed side near the silver brackets used to relocate the utility rail. Without cutting the rubber seal on the bakflip there is definitely a small gap for me. I'm going to see how bad the water leakage is before cutting the bakflip seal or adding foam.
