Sorry!!! Just remember BOHICA! Bend over. Here it comes again. :D:rofl:

PLC is Platoon Leaders Course - it is the Marine Corps equivalent of ROTC where you attend either 2 6-week summer camps before commissioning or 1 10-week camp. NPQ = Not Physically Qualified.

LOL, yeah, OCS was indeed like summer camp compared to boot camp. :)

The biggest difference I noticed was, in boot camp, they'd tell you about something, say the M16, and then they'd tell you the same thing another 999 times, and then give you a test on the subject matter; fail the test and they'll tell you the same thing another 1,000 times and give you the test again. Fail a second time? No problem, rinse and repeat until you pass.

With OCS, they tell you one time, give you some study material, and if you fail the test, you're almost instantly separated from the military and given a plane ticket home.

They know what they are talking about, no different than "US" talking about bubbleheads, monkey's fists, snipes, boomers, deck apes. etc., we know what they are, but they don't have a clue and we are spelling them out!!!
I can still tie a "monkeys fist", comes in handy for heaving lines up into trees in order to put pressure on them and help guide where I want them to fall. :)
Oh yea, I was a "deck ape" that was assigned to a boat crew, and can still tie a bowline in my sleep, would love to coxswain an LCM one last time in rough seas, that was fun!
Just in case, LCM----"Landing Craft Mechanized"!

Lots of Acronyms out there that we take for granted, think NYSE, OTC, and NASDAQ, I can never remember what the full name of the NASDAQ is.
Then there's one I want no part of, STD! :D
Now you got me thinking, GTO and GTX are Acronyms, I would bet that most don't know what they really stand for.

This reminded me of the email conversation that I (a Maintenance Department fellow) had with my conpany purchasing department buyer, her ATF meant After The Fact, while my understanding of the ATF was Automatic Transmission Fluid. :argue:

    1. If I recall correctly the system would start to settle down somewhere around N 89 degrees 55 minutes and be back to normal around N 89 50. So only about 5 to 10 nm.
    2. There didn’t seem to be much relationship between altitude and compass wander.

First picture is one of my squadron’s plane over the ice cap
Second picture is the Navigator/Communicator station on the P3C
Third picture is a rendezvous with a U.S. sub as part of the exercise.

Interesting story but I can neither confirm nor deny (standard answer to questions regarding classified info) the presence or absence of UFO’s going into Thule. Thule was part of the Air Force DEWIZ (Distant Early Warning Identification Zone), now according to Google is is the northern most base for the U.S. Space Force. I was lucky and only spent two weeks there, I would not want to be stationed there for a long period of time.

If you do make it up this way, let me know and we can meet up for lunch or have you join me for a boxing class! Don't worry; we don't hit each other)
@apreston1 is close by; maybe he could join us.

A good friend flew with the Navy over the artic polar cap. Submarine hunters. Orions. During winter, everyone wanted to go up as it was the only time you saw sunshine.

He had funny stories about survival week. You learn to eat bugs and avoid detection (an unknown group would jump you and beat the snot out of him; he was ready to kill them all but never could figure out where they were. Skip trying to eat k-rations (cooking is out, food makes your poop smell, they find you and beat you up), hence bugs and edible plants.

Hey RRTom—sounds like fun opportunity to get together.

RE: your friend and Orions, that’s exactly what I did. if you are in touch with your friend I am interested to know what squadron(s) he was in and the timeframe he was flying. The pictures posted were from 1985 and the squadron was VP-11 (Proud Pegasus).

Your description of survival week was actually SERE (Survival Evasion Resistance and Escape) school..funny stories and painful memories..

    Morning all!

Myself and 1 of my friends went to the GAOS (Great American Outdoor Show) in Harrisburg yesterday.

Long story short, I noticed the PA Fish and Boat Commission and thought since I was right there I'd purchase my fishing license. Gave them my drivers license and hear "you qualify for a senior lifetime license!!

Whoa what a shock...I didn't even think about that.

So now I'm officially old!!!

Now this looks like a whole lot of cold.

Good morning. Ever feel like your day is a lot busier than you expected? Today is off to the gym them on to a haircut. Hopefully I will finalize the Income Tax forms today, which means a 10-mile trip down route 301 to the Tax Accountants office. Going to fix a heart health Chicken A-LA King dinner for tonight. I was going to get the haircut tomorrow but tomorrow is even busier.

My cousin that passed is the uncle of my sons Godmother so she will be at the Celebration of Life. This means her husband, my sons Godfather is home with the 3 children and my cousins sister's husband, he is not physically able to make the trip. Yesterday we decided to smoke up a pork shoulder and two chickens next Monday, for my son to take down to them when he gets off work on Tuesday. This accomplishes two things, takes a couple of meals that he does not have to make to them and gets my son out of the house one night before he flies down to Florida on Friday to meet up with us.

Good morning all! Going to reach 68 deg.F today, an unseasonably warm week for Feb., typically cold with chance of snow/ice. Will cool off again after that.

Made me check, figured I was eligible for senior lifetime license but now NC has changed eligibility from 65 to 70! Grrr.

    Morning all:

When I got mine I had the option to buy a lifetime trout stamp with it, which I did. They have since dropped that option and you will need to buy a trout stamp every year, don't forget that.
You should also qualify for a senior lifetime hunting license, make sure to get the "senior lifetime combination license" and not just the senior lifetime license, they cost more, but include lifetime muzzleloader, archery, and fur takers.
You may already know that, but just a reminder. If you don't go muzzleloader and archery, and have no use for the fur takers license, then the standard senior lifetime may be sufficient, my buddy and I both have the combination license.

Good for you Tom. Nothing sizzles my oats than a lazy SOB that takes a spot from someone who needs it. In PA they can get a tag for the passenger and some folks abuse that even when the disabled passenger isn't with them they still park in the handicap spot.
Thanks again for taking the initiative to let her know she was wrong.

The two I remember most from my work career are FUBAR and DILLIGAF.

Hi Carl, military acronyms drove me crazy. As years went by they are still with us but I don't need to use them as much. But to answer the GTO question...I was always under the assumption that the G stood for Gran, the T stood for Tourismo, and the O stood for Olegatto (sp). GTX ?????
