It would be a large competitive advantage in my mind to use the hybrid system to offer significant fuel savings compared to other midsize trucks. Optimally they could have a configuration to maximize the power and a different one for fuel economy. I think more people would be interested in the fuel savings over power increase. I also believe a similar scenario would apply to the Tundra. We have a newer Sienna and the hybrid powertrain is a home run in my book. Smooth power (perfect amount for a minivan) and great fuel economy - especially in the summer!

Too bad GM got rid of the Duramax for the twins. I averaged over 27 in the ZR2 I had. Fuel costs offset some of that savings however.

Couldn't help notice the new Grand Highlander has a 2.4L turbo hybrid max option with 362hp and 400lb of torque. That would be pretty sweet for a Tacoma Hybrid Max.

I’ve driven the Lexus RX500h with the 2.4L turbo and e-axle/Direct 4 AWD (366HP/400 Torque and ~4,700lb curb weight). It drove fantastic. Great torque off the bottom, good pull through the range. While that wouldn’t go into a Tacoma it was a great power train…..even with only 6 gears.

I still find this decision in the third gen annoying — a mild hybrid 2wd truck would have been great for fleet or personal work trucks (gardeners, pool tenders, etc.). I guess the Maverick is that truck now.

The RX is Lexus' bread-and-butter vehicle, that tells me that Toyota has full faith in that combo. Combined with the new numbers for Colorado/Canyon and what will probably go into a Ranger Raptor, some variant of that has to be in the cards for higher level Tacoma trims. And we'll see our first $60k Taco.

Oh its coming, look at Tundra prices, any new car, and Toyota knows we'll pay it.

What story? Used / wholesale prices? Never seen new car prices ever decrease over time. added tech, etc. Prices on new popular in demand vehicles I'm guessing will surely remain high, whether we go back to the days of being able to negotiate 10-15% off MSRP we shall see, I wont hold my breath.

I don’t trust any economic numbers being pushed out. Too much cherry picking in the metrics.
