I drive a 2016 Tacoma with 239000 miles on it , the other day i ran out of gas and my daughter brought a gas can to put gas back in my truck .
A few hours later i went to pick my granddaughter up from school and the vehicle started to stall , the speed dropped , very poor acceleration and the RPM meter needle was very jumpy between 500 and 1000rpm , check engine light and trac off both came on , i was pulling into the school parking lot to park and when i cranked the vehicle back up after a few minutes it ran ok again .
This morning when i went to the post office the check engine light and TRAC OFF were no longer on and vehicle ran ok but then on the way back the vehicle acceleration all of the sudden was not great even though there was no drop in speed this time and when i stopped at a red light the idle was very rough , no check engine light came on and once the light turned green acceleration seemed to be ok and the rough idling has not appeared again either !
Anyone has seen this issue before ? i been thinking about fuel filter or injectors clogged up but then again why would something like this be intermittent ?

You have a check engine light so go see what the code is. No sense in guessing here till you do.

I will take a guess for you. Since you ran the truck empty start with fuel pump.

Good luck on the filter, there is a screen on bottom of fuel pump in tank. You need to drop tank, or remove bed to access it. Never, ever good idea to run theses things out of fuel...

Ya running a fuel pump dry sucking in nothing bound to be your problem. Never get it below a quarter tank i say. Props on the 239,000 miles though that is an accomplishment

Maybe the last few pushes of the fuel pump sent crap, water, etc upstream before it shut down.

    Cold where you are?

Pulled some water in when the tank was low?

What else was in that gas can lol?

    Gas line antifreeze is cheap.

bad gas. probably water in it. go get some star-tron or stabil and put it in the tank.

filled up with some premium yesterday that was somehow cheaper than 87. now i know why. it's obviously old gas and now my truck runs like shit.
