Hey! I have a 2014 Tacoma and my display comes on but when I put in reverse the camera is black and I can only hear music if I put it at max. Please tell me this is an easy fix. In the 8 years I've had a really good truck but this last year it's been nothing short of a headache.

Is your camera still bolted in place next to the tailgate handle? Is it covered with something? Is it the factory head unit? Sounds like its getting power when in reverse, but something is wrong with the video feed. What music source are you referring to when you say you have to max out the volume to hear music, any source (FM/Bluetooth/acc etc)? Are your speakers all working?

I have little to no sound. I can only hear anything out of the speakers when it's on max volume. No there's nothing covering the camera it was working fine the night before but no camera and no sound today. The display comes on and everything. I've pushed down on the radio to restart it and still having this issue

It sounds like you lost the video feed on the camera, because the power is still coming into the head unit to trigger the camera. Maybe the camera went bad or its bad wiring, but odd that both that and the volume thing happened at one. There is a connector under the rear bumper between the wiring that comes from the cab where it goes into the tail gate and leads to the camera. You can check that connection to see if its still good and together and maybe shoot some electrical contact cleaner into the connection. It takes some abuse back there if you are in a northern (salt) state. You can also check the continuity, that would be my next step. But if the music volume needs to be maxed out when listening to a radio station to even hear it (as in, you aren't listening to a bluetooth source and the volume on your phone or whatever device you are using is turned way down, that does require a higher volume on the stereo to compensate) then there might be something in the head unit itself and I am out of ideas. I have a 2014 as well, and any issues I have had with the stock head unit cleared after restarting like you said you did.

You checked the wiring around the Tailgate?
