Wow that was fast. Definitely looks like your tailgate! Go there with your key and try it out on the lock.

Images from threads here appear in Google image searches. Might just be that.

    @d0ugh0ck

I noticed one of my photos before Talon CAT plate install on a thread showing where the catalytic converters were exposed to theft.

It was a before picture but still gave would-be thieves the location points to do their work.

Of course, that wasn't my intent but it goes to show you the world we live in.

Cops never responded to possibly joining me in a meet up and I would rather not put it on my friends to join me and do it by ourselves. One of my friends was messaging them and they gave him a motel to meet up at; soon after the guy removed all his listings on Offerup. So I spoke with my insurance and it’s covered, I just need to pay the deductible so I think I’ll be going that route and giving this tailgate I have to one of my guys at work that got their tailgate stolen as well from somewhere else a while back.

Can you guys believe Toyota is asking for $3300 for a new tailgate with reverse cam and harness ?! And that’s NOT painted! Plus the cost to rekey the lock.. I’m assuming it’s $4k from Toyota to have a new tailgate. Insurance estimated about $2k for a used one repainted. I’d like a new one and will be talking with insurance if I can go that route.

    ^^

    Yikes!

    $3300 and not painted?

Seems like the OEM Tailgate Lock and the SaBellCo is minimal cost to a new tailgate.

    Thanks for updating us.

    Enough for now
Maybe time for a Wilco swing out instead for about $1k less than what Toyota is asking!

Don't worry about the key... just install pop n lock and you can un/lock the tailgate with FOB. Keep the tailgate you have now... and use the insurance money for digital wrap your truck or anything else you want for your truck.

If you want the new tailgate, that's fine but your insurance money will be gone to the dealer or shop.

To everyone, parking at home, park backward towards the garage door which thief can't get in there because no room to open it. If you can't park it inside the garage. If you have room in the garage, park it inside.

If you have spouse's car, then you can park backward toward that car so they can not open your tailgate.. I mean park it very close to the back of the car. So they will have hard time to steal it.

At work, find a parking spot that you can park backward to the building wall. If not successful finding a space with wall, then leave a truck home and use Uber to work and back home. Unless you have a ride...

That way, you don't have to go through all over again.

That won't work, if they noticed it on GPS, they won't deliver.. If they are on the way and notice POLICE logo on building, they will turn around.

I keep saying this but nobody listens. Thieves use this site to locate trucks and things to steal. The "Tacoma spotting threads" on here are dumb as shit and should be taken down and locked.

I was told by the body shop that the replacement parts would be "new & OEM" when I had my insurance paid repairs made and that is the policy from the insurance company.
Don't know how true it is to that, but I couldn't persuade them to use a pre-owned part at the time so I could minimize my deductible.
