I really enjoy all the interesting things you do, thank you for posting them.

 

I looked into them and then decided they were stupid expensive. I could replace the hoses with the fancy stainless steel ones every year for 20 years for the same price. That said I belong to the group of people that have never had a washer hose blow. I did have a rubber hose that got a big blister after 15 years of use. Fortunately I caught it in time and replaced it with stainless steel and haven't looked back.

 

You could rig up a solenoid valve on a switch for a lot cheaper than that.

 

I installed a single throw hot and cold cutoff and use it after every use (3-4 loads once per week). Never a problem. I installed one for my daughter but she never uses it! 2 adults, 3 kids under 10, so laundry is a daily thing.

 

So I ended up going with boltless shelves with melamine boards. I’ve got the lumber & tools to have built my own, but the time to do it is tough to come by with a 16 month old tyrant running around. I also wanted to have the ability to easily add/remove/change the shelves and a DIY wood setup would be exponentially harder to change in the future. For $330 all in, delivered to my door, I’m satisfied. Now to fill em up.

I’m probably redoing my washer and dryer hookups as part of the kitchen remodel since the back of the wall is open and a plumber scheduled for next week. Any modern ideas welcome. I assume basic recessed tried and true is the current best plan?

 

Are those drywall screws?! Realize any screws would be WTF, but still.

 

It's fine. Also illegal but it's worked for this long. If you're worried about it just get a waterproof junction and replace it. lol

 

Spent 4 hours in the attic and up and down the ladder to complete a new bathroom supplemental heater so my wife is happy. I had 12 AWG scrap that was the perfect length so this was actually an easy project! An actual improvement, where we don’t have a space heater in the bathroom so I’m 100% satisfied with the results, even though all the tin was not square neither was the cover…

 

I was just looking over my utility bills. I'm using an average of 500 ft^3/day (500k BTU/day) of gas. 98% of this is heating the house and water. Is there a rough way to calculate what 500k BTUs would use in KWH if all this heating was done via heat pump? I know there are a million factors like the temperature where I live but I'm just looking for a very very rough estimate.
