Looked all underneath, everything looks fine. It actually drives foward completely fine. Its the reverse that bangs hard everytime its shifted into reverse. There is like a 3-4 second delay when i shift into reverse. Then bang. Then itll roll back slowly. If i give it alot of gas, thats when it goes crazy.

Thought you checked all underneath ?
Go back underneath with a flashlight and find where the linkage is on the side of the transmission. If and when you see it. See if you can tell if its position has been changed.

Dude, I think you are at the point where a reputable transmission shop should be consulted. I would stop driving the truck in the meantime as you just might make a bad situation worse.

You could lay under it with the key to acc but engine off, and have someone move the shifter between the gears to orientate yourself to its location

I did this to my 99 Prerunner 20 years ago, threw it into reverse going 40 mph trying to pretend I was a rally car driver with a stick shift. 19 year old logic...

Anyway it was fine, the truck lurched and stalled hard, but started up again and never noticed any problems after that. Had it maybe 2 more years before selling. Maybe the next owner dealt with the delayed repercussions lol

    Manual or automatic?

Regardless, if you do need a new transmission, it should be 7 to 8 hours shop time to replace a manual transmission, including clutch replacement, if the shop knows what they’re doing. Ask me how I know. I expect an auto would be about same, maybe 1 hour less since no clutch to deal with

For transmission cost, go to www.parts.Toyota.com to look up MSRP for a new transmission. Add tax and approx $300 shipping if you buy it there. I called around for mine and local dealers wanted anywhere from $1000 to $2000 over MSRP so dealer should be your last resort unless you absolutely need it in 2 days. There are web sites advertising below MSRP. I went that route and it turned into a 3 week wait for it to show up after they claimed it was in stock. That included the end of year holidays so might be shorter if ordered now.

also check out a reputable transmission repair shop. It should be rebuildable but also a gamble since they won’t know what parts to replace until they open it up. If you go this route, I would not drive it any further as you don’t know what crap is now circulation inside causing damage to other parts

    Under development
I think the best thing to do is replace the sensor, then roll 10 mph and slam it into reverse and see if you can break it again. Then we’ll know :D

seriously though, hope it’s nothing major. Live and learn
