I'm currently housesitting for my parent's at their house just north of Spokane and wondering if there are any local trails to hit (specifically that are open/safe during the winter).

I didn't see anything listed on Trails Offroad and there are some things I found with OnX but I've found it's always best to get local advice if at all possible - especially regarding winter conditions.

Not looking for anything crazy (especially since I'll be going solo), mainly just want to get out and explore the area a bit while I'm here. I also saw there's a Toyota meet up this weekend and a Rigs & Coffee meetup next weekend (both at Cutting Edge Customs in Post Falls). Gonna try to make it out to one or both of those if possible.

Welcome to the 'hood! I'll be at that Toyota Meetup tomorrow. Regarding Trails, there are TONS. Head N. on 395, closer you get to the Pend Oreilee NF, more trails. No idea on how much snow they still have up there.

As of last weekend There’s roughly 3-4’ at lower elevations in PO and stevens county. Significantly more as you gain elevation. Keep in mind a lot of FS roads gates are closed in winter for wild life refuge. Still lots of options available though.

Example of the road conditions up north. Did a river status check and fished today. FS roads were snowed in. I’d estimate 2-5’ depending on shade. Lots of snowmobiles out.

I did see a ton of stuff up off 395 via OnX but didn't even know where to start with that, lol. I've got this upcoming Monday off work so maybe the wife and I will take a day to go explore or something and see what we can find.

I had wondered about that. When I looked online Mt Spokane's base was surprisingly small but for all know that's normal for the area so I wasn't sure exactly what to think.

I assumed many would be closed and is partly why I was checking here. I can find a ton of different stuff via OnX but for all I know it's all closed or impassible. I'm not really looking for a day of digging myself out and instead just wanting to go do a little checking out of the local scenery.

Looks beautiful! Is this one of the FS roads north off 395? How's the fishing this time of year? I didn't even think to bring a rod.

I'd offer to show you some stuff in North Idaho normally, but I took my truck apart for winter repairs. Might try to make it to the little coffee meet in Post Falls on Saturday though

I apologize, little late to the party now but meant to reply then got sidetracked and completely forgot.

Did you make it out exploring?

Lots of stuff will be open especially stuff closer to Spokane and CDA. Just be prepared the further north and east you get the deeper the snow will get. For WA 395 has lots of options. 2 and 20 have lots of options as well. ID has stuff off 41 and 95.

The pic I posted is in Idaho. If you shoot me a pm I’ll fill you in but I’m not going to blast it on the web. Fishing can be great this time of year. Generally don’t rack up the numbers like you would during the spring or fall but the crowds are smaller. Solitude.

No, haven't had a chance to head out yet, but hoping to find part of a day this weekend to go explore a bit. I should probably start downloading some offline maps in my OnX today.
