California Tacoma Owners: What does your title say?

i believe the year of the vehicle comes into play also

 

All trucks are commercial.

My 2023 CA DMV reg fees for my 2014 Access Cab V6 4x4 were $306.

The "AX" (Axle) field on my registration card says "2". 4 does seem a bit off for a Tacoma.

I also have a 1999 2WD 2.4L auto Tacoma. Reg fees for that are ~$145/year, and it also has a "2" in the "AX" field.

 

Thanks. In 2022, I paid $579 vs. your $571. So based on that I guess I'm not paying more than I 'should'. Man I hate this state.

All truck in CA are registered as commercial vehicles. In 2001 I owned a F250 CrewCab that I installed a shell on. Took it to DMV, filled out paperwork, had it inspected, and reclassified as a passenger vehicle. You must keep the topper on the truck and cannot use it for commercial purposes. Unless you rock personalized plates, CA trucks registered as commercial vehicles have 1 alpha character vs 3 for a passenger. I was pulled over once and questioned about my trucks status (sharp LEO). The officer ran it and confirmed I was legit. It can be done, it's a bit of a PITA but will save you, at the time, about $100 a year. Personal experience...YMMV.

 

Kinda weird yours weighs less and you pay more. I love my truck even more now!

 

I suspect it is either because mine has 4 axles on paper or due to local/county factors.

I know. Tell me about it. Nearly perfect weather. Beach 2 minutes away. Redwoods 10 minutes away. Truly horrible place to live.
