What are your thoughts on the mag on the face of the dryer box inside the stud bay and elbow inside the cabinet on the other side of the wall? Or a frame rectangular drywall box? That buys back 3.5” of hookup space and costs only 3.5” of cabinet space. Likely that part isn’t used much since the depth is 24” there and below an oven is mostly oven pans.

i would entertain the idea of thickening the wall by the washer/dryer to allow a 4" pipe to smoothly transition into the crawl space.

 

i think the main concern is going to be fire code. as long as there's at least 1" of airspace around the vent pipe for any solution, i think you'd be good to go.

the drawer below the oven ought to have 1.5-2" to the cabinet back, depending on the cabinet construction, there's either 3/4 or 1/4" laminate back there, usually plus another 1/4" to the drywalled wall behind it that ought to be 1/2-5/8" thick.

so all those assumptions, pushing the dryer flat to the wall, and cutting into the cabinet all the way to the drawer, you should have about 6.5" minimum to play with, not including adding a wall back into the back of the oven cabinet.

 

So, the mere fact of a vent being within a stud bay gives it some sort of fire rating which is superior to being within a cabinet? That sort of makes sense to me, stud lumber being fire rated while cabinet grade plywood is not?

And, from that thinking, it almost sounds like building a stud bay box on the kitchen side to steal space might be the way to go?

I think shortening the drawer by 5" might not really be too hard, those things don't typically open all the way anyway and 24" deep cabinet with 24" deep drawer is 4' away from the wall and into a primary walkway, so it's not going to see a ton of heavy use.

Is there code against a trench in the board at the bottom of a stud bay wall? Given a 4" duct, ovalized and through said stud bay, pretty much makes an entire trench out of it?

Let me get some photos, probably hard to describe this properly since I'm not versed in terminology.

I love the mag connector b/c the upper cabinets make getting into the space behind the driver to tighten up the flex pipe clamps quite tricky and my 7 year old isn't trustworthy for this yet. Last time we had to install the dryer first then the washer and moving that washer is kind of a bear.

 

Just throwing this out there. Some lg dryers have an option to bottom vent directly through the floor.

why would you need to meet a parting wall fire rating in a detached dwelling?

 

again , curious why fire code would come in to play in a detached dwelling unit in this application

 

Some photos. I see knockouts so re-routing vent through the floor may be the easy path. We already replaced a bit of the floor here due to water damage, PO’s never addressed a leaky valve, changed the core, now it’s good to go.


Looking over this closer, that mag vent might get me everything I can really get with the least amount of effort. And if not, then I think I’ll get that kit to vent out the bottom and cut a hole in the floor.

 

the Mag Vent would make a little more sense to me if the mag connection was on the dryer side of the flex and was slightly conical with o-rings instead of just flat

where do the instructions say that detached dwellings need a different requirement from multi-family dwellings?

 

the Dryerbox instructions don't , fire code is applied differently to multi family parting walls versus detached dwellings , ie the steps for meeting the fire rating only apply if you need a 1 hr fire rating in that assembly

Why would they sell 2x4 and 2x6 versions of the Dryerbox receptacle if there was no way you could install it in a 2x4 wall ?

I am going to buy new hoses that are 100 feet x 5/8 inch and would like to buy good rubber hoses but some I have used will leave black residue all over your hands. Does anyone have recommendations on a good rubber hose that does not leave that horrid black residue behind? By rubber hose I mean like this. I am leaning toward forgoing the rubber hose and getting this or this.

 

At least cut the zip ties so they stab the next owner!

 

added some trim to the existing"garden bed" filled with shells. Wasnt feeling the shells anymore so added in River Rocks. Came out nice.

 

Yeah this is just for use around the house so I'm not worried about excessive abuse, we have those rust colored ones at my dealership and they do put up with a lot of abuse but don't coil up very well.
