For some odd reason I had the urge today to pop open the hood since my last oil change 4 months ago.

I discovered some markings but I'm not sure what made these. No other foreign objects in the engine bay, no rat droppings, wires look fine.

Anyone knows what could have entered the engine bay? Thanks in advance

I suspect that's just your OCD flaring up. :D

I don't see any causes for worry.

    First guess squirrel.

Second guess whatever you find in the rat trap tomorrow.

Highly recommend doing something either way.

get some essential oils and soak them in cotton balls and put them around your engine bay. you could also use pepper spray but might make a mess. they don't like the smell. rats, mice, whatever...

4 months? I pop my hood every other fill up to check my fluids. Guess we were raised differently.

PS: some sort of critters bumping uglies in there would be my guess.

A rat. Get peppermint oil, traps, poison etc. and don't stop going until you take out their whole family. We had a rat chew wiring on my wife's 22 GTI...1300 in wiring repair (covered by a 250 comp deductible), but the car was down for 3 weeks while they waited on a wiring harness. Get that rodent before it gets you!

some of them look like small foot prints,,, F'n rodents! THIS IS WAR!!!!
I always suggest killing one, and leaving it's body and it's head hang separate in effigy, to warn the others in the kingdom.

Looks more like a mouse, but possibly a squirrel.

Either way, you need to keep them out of there.
Take it from us 2nd Gen guys, those critters like to eat knock sensors wires.

Looks like some potential squatters are taking a look. Go Home Depot and grab some of the drainage sock they sell to put over small drainage pipe. Cut a 2 foot piece of it. Tie one end into a knot. Add box of moth balls, and tie knot on other end. Cut off excess. Now you have mothball sausage. Find a spot under the hood, perhaps on the opposite of where the battery is, and wedge in in there. They will skip that spot and look else where.
(And on another note same thing can be done with rock salt and tossed up in those pesky gutters that like to freeze up.)

thanks guys, let's not take any chances, I just ordered these
    Screenshot 2023-02-13 at 5.53.31 PM.jpg

I'll use 2 of them in the engine bay

I'm not sure if it's a squirrel or a rat or a mouse, so I think I'll get a generic rodent spray and also a squirrel specific one

    Screenshot 2023-02-13 at 5.52.51 PM.jpg Screenshot 2023-02-13 at 5.52.29 PM.jpg

Anywhere in the engine bay should I avoid spraying? I'm guessing the obvious answer is not on electronics
