Unsure, I know he has the whole diagnostic system.

I will ask though. Luckily someone else is doing the labor for me, but I really like to know what's going on for future reference. If the outside temp wasn't going to be -6 over the weekend, I would be playing with this myself.

Quick update, thanks again for the help all.

got the truck back, $1200 or so later, 2 new solenoid modules (and some other stuff, had them do the oil change and inspection sticker). It’s much better, no issues with the higher gears.

however, I think i need to look at some other common issues, still gets a little tricky searching for 1st from a rolling position.

New update all- big blue is back at the shop. Transmission was running great, then the slippage started again. Luckily this looks to be just a leak on transmission lines going to the transmission cooler.

Appreciate the update, but from what I'm gathering the shop had you fork out over a grand to replace a couple solenoids, that apparently didn't fix anything, but now they're saying it's a leaky transmission line? o_O Or is the story that replacement of the solenoids fixed the issue, but then the leaky line lost enough fluid loss causing the issue to return?

The latter of the two it seems. I’m in New England and we have a ton of road salt out here, I’m guessing it finally did its thing on these lines. Hopefully this will be the last of the issues.

I am wondering tho, since the lurch also happened if I should have them fire some axel grease on the slip axel… if not, I’ll probably end up doing it myself now that the weather is warming up (allegedly).

It's not uncommon for those lines to rust thru on trucks in the salt belt areas. Since they replaced the solenoids within the last week or so I'd expect the fluid level to have been replenished & topped off. Guess I'm just having a hard time believing you lost that much fluid in the last few days to coincidentally cause the same issue as before. Call me paranoid & skeptical, but I wouldn't be surprised if they're just trying to cover their tracks on the (potentially unnecessary) solenoid replacement.

Totally get it, I’d be paranoid also.
Will update after the lines are replaced. FWIW, the entire pan looks brand new, I trust the guy who did it (family friend), and unless something else crazy happens, this should be the end of the line for the transmission issues- I hope.

I just had one of those replaced last year and now I think the other one is seeping. Hopefully not the same one. What are you payin to have the lines replaced, if you don’t mind my asking? I think it was $400ish for me

I’m being charged $220 (a little over). Casually just came down with the flu, so once I recover and pick it up, I’ll share any additional thoughts.

If you had one replaced then the other would've been replaced as well, since it comes as an assembly with the two tubes (permanently) attached to the brackets. Barring some type of impact damage, defect, or super accelerated rusting, it would be very odd for yours to be leaking again.

Hmmm maybe I’ll take it in again and see if something came loose…My coolant is a bit low (still well above min though) and the lines were wet. Next vehicle I buy will be religiously fluid-filmed. I’m tired of rust buckets
