I'm a Nissan Frontier owner, and I completely agree that the grill styling sucks. Fortunately there's an aftermarket grill that looks quite a bit better. I wonder where they got the inspiration for it? :)

OP - either a low mileage 2.7L Taco or 4.0L Nissan in good condition will serve your needs. The 2.7L Tacoma is very unlikely to have any issues. Reliability of the Nissan transmission on the Frontier might be a concern if towing regularly, but that engine will pull great.

Thanks. Beauty is in the eye of beholder, but I've been happy with it, despite the circa 2005 interior.

Test drove an I4 double cab Tacoma today the 6 speed was fine but very noticeable underpowered when trying to accelerate on the on-ramp or passing on the highway, even tried it with the ETC on. Went to look at a Colorado, Frontier, and a Ranger too. Colorado won’t fit the car seats, Ranger and frontier do. I have to call my credit union about a loan on Monday and figure out where to go from there.

The Frontier is a workhorse and the engines bulletproof. You can’t wrong either way. I loved my Frontier but once I damaged it in an accident I wanted to move off it. My wife still has has a 2019 Frontier, midnight edition. It’s just a tough truck. Yes, the interior is dated and the design is from yesteryear, but if you want a proven platform you can’t go wrong with it. It has the torque and feels like a truck. The 2.7 is amazing but you are comparing a 4 banger and a v6. Trust your gut, get what you want and you’ll be happy.

There is no way that headers made a legitimate difference in towing

Your truck looks sweet though. I like the bumper grill combo and having the DB cover to top it off

Thanks. I should have added that the Frontier turn radius does suck as advertised though.

I've had both. Both great engines. If I was never gonna tow and wanted to keep my truck for 500k I'm buying the Tacoma. My 2013 Frontier was a great truck. Tons of torque.

Talked with my auto sourcing person and the truck I was looking at did not pass certification. It needs a small repair, but won’t be available for a few days to a week or two. I heard back from my mechanic that my truck has 2 cylinders at 0 psi compression and 2 at 175psi. So I’ll be taking that back home and tearing into it, not before I have to buy another car of some sort to get me to and from work… this is a pinch that happens to people and drives them to make a poor decision. My top two needs are car seats and getting to work, secondary is towing capacity. I don’t technically need a truck they are just more useful than an suv for the most part.

I am currently also looking at an Armada.

I think it’s funny when people say the 4 cyl can’t tow. I just hook up to whatever I need and drive on by them, smiling and waving.

it’s no one ton truck, but 3k pounds is well within specs for a 2.7 Tacoma. It’s fine. You’ll be fine, I promise.

Fell off the wagon and went over budget. Figured it was time to see what all the fuss was about. Maybe it’s a mid life crisis? The wife is happy so…

Good luck, hope you don't have a ton of issues. I know that is why I will never buy a newer Jeep again.

I had a 2017 two door wrangler with the six speed manual. At 9K miles it would jump out of reverse when engaged. Found out there was a TSB for this. Dealer had it for a month replaced a bunch of internal parts all good. Fast forward three months it happens again. Dealer says they are going to replace the transmission with a new one. They have it for another month. I get it back and two weeks later it pops out of reverse again. Mind you this Jeep was babied and we only put 9K miles on it in four years. I was done at that point. Sold it to Carmax for for more than what we paid for it new. The one good thing is they hold their value.
