Nope. If you're changing pads you either need to have the rotors turned or replace them. The new pads won't bed in correctly with the old / non turned rotors, and cause the pads to wear faster.

For pads, I've been running the Akebono ACT 436 and like them. I just run whatever parts store rotors. I used to turn them in between pad changes, but the new rotors are junk and become too thin after they're turned, so I just replace them now.

Thank you. That makes perfect sense. I guess I’ll have to change them then.

Good call. There are areas where it makes sense to save money, but brakes really aren't one of them.

If you have any questions about the actual process to change the pads and rotors, post up and this community will be able to guide you. They are one of the easiest DIY's you can do and don't require any special tools.

Thank you. I keep searching and all the sets I can find show the rotors as a 5 lug. When I google gen 1 Tacoma brake I get options for 6 lug however it then shows that it doesn’t fit my truck.

D799 and D436 are interchangeable...one set has 4 of the "outer" pads, and the other set has 2 inners (with the wear sensor mount in the center) and 2 outers. The out pads fit and work in both inner and outer locations. Toyota has supplied both styles over the years. It makes no difference. Most pad suppliers consolidate to one or the other

NAPA Premium Front Brake Rotor NB 4886566 | Buy Online - NAPA Auto Parts (napaonline.com)

With the napas being $64 with the 20 off.....would not make since to turn old ones that were thin to do so in the first place......
On modern imports....nobody turns rotors anymore.....there's not enough material.....

The 6lug napa rotors are $60 with the discount.......

I would be careful of the power stops.....every other week there's a bad story on them here....

I'm not sure where this came from, or where it started. There is plenty of material on EVERY rotor produced in the last 30 or 40 years to machine them. Minimum thickness spec is NO LESS THAN 2MM less than the new thickness, across the board. There are maybe 5 or 10 part numbers across the entire brake rotor product line in that time frame that have either no min-thickness spec or that have 1.4mm or less difference between the minimum thickness spec and the new thickness, but none of those are found on toyotas.

Rotors can be machined several times just fine...if the lathe adapters aren't all fucked up.

I think turning rotors is a scam......if your a big enough idiot to grove your rotors....
maybe you shouldnt even be driving.......maybe a bicycle with a rim brake would be your speed.....

If you inherit a truck a truck with slight glooves.....I wouldnt sweat it.......groves just increase surface contact...
unless your a lead foot......cause then your gonna have numerous over heating and tranny problems anyway.....

I would only replaced them if they were warped....

Use of the akebono pads should bring the wear to almost zero.....
thats the reason those pads are bad ass.......
