The tire idiot light started going off recently and I’m not seeing any tire pressures reported at all. Is this normal behavior when one of the tire sensors is bad/dead, or would the system report PSI for the remaining good sensors and then only display null/dashes for the bad ones? Asking because I don’t want to go about replacing my tire sensors if the problem is with the truck’s receiver. (Clarification: My Tacoma shows four individual PSI readings for the tires…it’s not just an idiot light. Lately it has been going on and off…i get no readings at all on any tires, then suddenly it’ll work and it will show all four tire’s PSI. That’s what makes me suspect the receiver and not one of the individual sensors going bad).

    Thanks for the help.

Not all models show tire PSI numbers on the display, only a light. Your best bet is to manually check each tire and fill where needed. Once you do, my guess is the light will turn off.

EDIT: The tire pressure warning light will blink if there's a malfunction. Is it blinking or on solid?

If you normally see 4 PSI numbers on your cluster, try pushing the TPMS button to the left of the steering column. Next, I would unhook the negative battery cable for a couple of minutes. If this does not work probably have to go by a tire place.

It normally shows all four wheels as individual PSI readings. When it malfunctions it just shows dashes for all four wheels.

Do you have a Discount Tire nearby? If so, they can read the sensors and tell their condition. I just replaced the sensors on my 2016 4Runner.

It's a sensor. Just leave it alone and it will fix itself. Really.

From what I've figured out with mine is.

If the light starts blinking after about 22 minutes and goes solid then it can't figure out were each sensor is.

If the light starts blinking right after starting up then theres a sensor out.

Mine was intermittent at first. I bought the Autel 508 and every time time I checked it read all sensors with good battery power. Finally when the light started blinking right away I found my right left wouldn't read. Then it just finally started working again ok for the last few months now.

This all started with new tires last summer at 130k miles on my 2016. The blinking light was mainly on my ride home from work at night in almost the same spot. I first thought it was mileage based but then figured out it's based on time when I had to detour on my normal route a few times. Right about 22 minutes is when it blinks then goes solid. I think this is saying it does not know where a sensor is at. Every time I used the Autel at home everything was alright. I finally learned how to plug it into the truck and load all the sensors. This seemed to work for about a week (450 miles for me) day and night then it just started all over again.

It was about a month latter when I finally saw the bad sensor with the Autel. I didn't have time and didn't really want to hassle with going to the tire shop and gave up.

I think it was around last November when it just starting working again all normal. I'm at 139k miles now. No big jumps or off-roading to gar things around.

That reset button doesn't really do shit. All it does is sets your minimum to what you have in each tire in each location. I never used it before for tire rotations like people say you have too. My last rotation I set my tire pressure 32 f 30 r and I saw them reversed on the screen at first but after a few minutes the truck figured it out and switched them to where they should be.
