So, I managed to get a hell of a deal on a 2" suspension lift for my '21 tacoma TRD sport. Less than 1000 verified miles on a used kit locally. The kit is an OME lift kit, front coils are heavy duty. The person is not including the rear spring kit, as its being used for his current setup (And, he has heavy duty in the rear, which I do not need). So, I am getting the 4 shocks, plus the front springs only.
My question is, do I NEED to put in an add a leaf in the rear? I dont need to fully replace the entire leaf spring in the back-there will be no RTT, and my payload is very light, not coming close to maxing out. We do mostly weekend runs, and nothing too technical, so there is no need for a heavy suspension at this time.
But, can I get away with simply not doing anything with the stock rear leaf springs, and simply replace the rear shocks with the OME ones, or should I put an add a leaf in there? I know the AAL adds an inch or so, but I am unsure whether its necessarily needed with the rear shocks. I did a little looking, and it seems like everyone replaces the rear spring pack, which, again, I dont need to do at this time. And, I am not entirely sure if I even need to put in the AAL, which is why I am asking this likely silly question :)

Depends if you like the look of your truck dragging ass like a worm ridden dog. The leaves set the ride height, the shocks set the rate of impact.

You have options. You can get a full medium duty leaf pack which will ride higher but not much stiffer. You can get a 3-leaf add a leaf which will be a hair stiffer but still not bad. Or you can get a block spacer which will ride like stock but will multiply axle wrap.

I went option B myself, the 3 leaf add on. It's okay. Not the best ever when it's empty, but it's okay. One of these days I'll upgrade to the full pack.

Just out of curiosity, what did you go with for the leaf pack?

Icon 3 leaf AAL. Most brands are similar.

I also went small with my lift. 1 inch up front, 1.5 rear. I want a lot of rake so that it levels when I tow the camper.

Rear shocks aren’t going to lift your truck. Need a new leaf pack/AAL if you want to lift the rear.

You’re going to run 888 coils up front? Why not add the EL111R at least out back?
