I think I answered my own question - found this after doing some Googling:

    TOY-SC1 Dip Switch Settings

Two dip switches located on the side panel are used to configure
the unit for correct display to match your headunit. Labeled 1 and 2 for text scroll and display length settings respectively.

    Text display switch configuration:

    1. Set dip switch 1 to Scroll ON/ Scroll OFF as follows:
    a) Radios with media or navigation displays: OFF (up position)
    b) For radios with smaller text displays, set switch 1 to ON (down) if text scrolling is desired.
    2. Set dip switch 2 to the up position for the 16 character setting or to the down position for the 11 character position
in order to match the display of your specific radio.

Note: The default settings from the factory are scroll "Off" and "16 characters". In order for text display configuration switch settings to take effect, you must disconnect power to the TOY-SC1 module then reconnect and turn ignition on again.

I read somewhere else that this just scrolls one of the selections (for instance if the song name is longer than 16 characters, it will scroll the entire song name. I don't think it scrolls through all the text selections but could be wrong. Perhaps someone who has theirs installed in a more "accessible place" than me can try this and give some feedback. :D

Question on the factory roof antenna; where is the end of the wire (to connect to the radio/tunner) located? I pulled my factory radio once, did not see it in the dash.
I am about to install the sirius tuner and sirius toyota interface, any suggestions or help you can offer?
    Thanks!

I had the OEM XM module installed at the dealership (part of a negotiations tactic) and have wondered the same thing about the scrolling text (rather, lack there of). I understand you went with the after market Sirius set-up, however, I'm wondering if anyone knows if the factory XM mod has a similar dip switch adjustment?

Well, my Sirius Tuner/Interface units started rattling in the dash area so I pulled it apart again to move them . I flipped the dipswitch and it seemed to kinda scroll - once, but then I didn't notice any real difference in the setting. So, I set it back to the default and let it be. At least now I know that the switch is set to the "optimum" setting.

when you reset the dip switch ,you have to unplug the power from the unit for a few seconds so it can reset

Got the Sirius parts - what a simple install! No running power or tapping into wires.

Decided to use the included antenna. If I have reception issues I'll switch to the 09 roof antenna. For now I mounted the antenna under the A-pillar trim. It's magnetic, so I mounted it on one of the bolt stud bases for the trim panel. Added a tie-wrap to ensure it doesn't come off on bumps. Also tie wapped the wire to the existing harness towards the windshield to keep everything away from the air curtain.

Unit itself is mounted tucked under the dash above the accelerator.
Units bolt together, and tie wrapped the mounting plate to a metal plate there behind the heater duct for the drivers footwell. Removed the lower dash panel (2 screws) to make sure everything was easy to access and loop the excess wire & tie wrap.
Totally hidden install, but easy to access for maintenance. Also just the radio T harness behind the radio.

This post was very helpful to get the initiative to try it out.
also the hidden code to bump the volume. It's not in the manual - go figure.

    Thanks all.

ps - Canadian supplier satellite-radio-source.ca in Mississauga had parts to my door in 3 days. Convenient source for the TOY-SC1, which Directed is discontinuing.
Not affiliated - just a Cdn source I got my stuff from. Prices on their web.

pps - OK, the A-piller is not a good location for the antenna.
Going to splice the cable from the Sirius antenna tomorrow with the factory cable. $70 usd & shipping for an adapter cable ... way to bend me over.
If this plan fails .... then a ppps :)

I know this thred is old but was looking for confirmation.

I had my truck in the shop today to hook up the sirus tunner and also my Iphone though the head unit (besides scratching the crap out of my dash:eek:) the shop then claimed I had to use the magnetic antenna that came with the SCC1 vs the XM antenna that is on the car. Can you guys please confirm that the SCC1 will work with the stock antenna if you either splice or use the shark fin adaptor. I think I will just do it myself as this is also the shop that spent more than 3 hours to get the Dynolock to work and also installed a rear dvd with the doom lights not functioning (all these mistakes were at the same time so it wasn't that I went back after all this:frusty:).

    Thanks

Yes, I am confirming that the SCC1 will work with the stock antenna if you either splice or use the shark fin adaptor. I am using the factory satellite antenna with the shark fin adaptor. To save money (Aprox $50-$75), you can splice the antenna wire as someone else had posted the “how to” on that.

That sucks that the shop messed up in scratching your truck or dash and such. I would have them either fix it or pay for the repairs.

    Good luck!

Your pictures of the kick panel location were great and gives me a good idea of what to do now. That plug location goes to the roof top mounted antennae?

I got a couple other questions.

    1. Are you using the factory radio that came with the truck? Is it the JBL or the other model?
    2. The link you gave for the Shark Fin Antennae Adaptor; all I have to do it buy that cable, plug it into the plug in the kick panel (like in the photos) and then plug the other end into ???what??? on the back of my factory radio, get a subscription to Sirius and I'm jamming to the tunes?
    3. Does the rooftop antennae provide reception for my AM FM Stations also?

The other end of that kick plate pug is connected to the rooftop satellite antenna which is not for AM/FM.

    Answer to questions;

    1. I did originally use the factory radio shown in the post which was a non JBL unit, but have since switched to an after market and my original Sirius tuner that I had prior to purchasing the Tacoma. I switched after discovering all of the problems with factory radios that was common for these trucks.

    2. Yes, the shark fin adapter; one end to the plug in the kicker panel, and the other to your Sirius tuner and obviously a subscription to Sirius.

    3. No, the rooftop antenna is for satellite service, not AM/FM signals. You should have a standard radio antenna mounted to the passenger fender.

    Good luck!

    Thanks.

For clarity since I am an electronically challenged person, the Sirius tuner is built into my factory stereo? You mentioned Sirius Tuner several times in your answers so I'm a little confused. Is this something else that I must buy in addition to that cord and it goes in between my factory radio and that cord end?

Can you share some of the problems you mentioned with the factory radio?

(I had read something about an interference problem between the after market BLU LOGIC and Sirius in some other forum in ToyotaNation. Not sure if that is one of the problems you mentioned.)

    Thanks,

I have an 09 Tacoma which the radio was considered satellite "capable" meaning a Sirius tuner and interface are required in order to run satellite thru the factory radio. Again, look at my post on this install: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/audio-video/28731-sirius-factory-radio-install-2009-tacoma.html

The tuner and/or interface (I forgot which one) has wiring harness to connect to the rear of the factory radio as well as to each other.
    So there are three devices or pieces of equipment;
    Factory radio
    Toyota interface
    Satellite tuner

As far as problems with the factory radio; radio would shut off on it's own, unable to change the station, lose satellite broadcast, etc.
Other members experienced these problems as well, some had the radio replaced and still had problems. So I decided to can the factory radio.
