Mine has never died after disconnecting the battery.
Once every couple years or so, it will start up and shut right off, but never after a battery disconnect.
I’ve heard lots of people say theirs do……?
    Maybe mines “broken”

    ^You have an aftermarket tune?

My 2010 4Runner with the dual-VVTi 1GR also does this, as I discovered after adding CTek battery tender leads.

One thing to take into count is some batteries may be a little different in size even though they are same group. I went to Batteries Plus as they had best deal and found out one of the hold down posts was about 1" too short. Bought a piece of rod and threaded end and made hook, worked fine.

On a different truck I bought a wrong size battery before and had to return it , so on this truck I measured my battery and kept the measurements on a piece of paper in my wallet. Measure before you buy!

Do you regularly inspect -- or probably less likely :), clean -- the battery terminals @MikeDeason? A good percentage of the batteries that are replaced could likely have their lives extended by making sure the terminal posts and wiring connectors are cleaned bright metal. Check that before buying a new battery.
