I have a 2008 Tacoma that I bought new, has 200k. I've always changed the oil at 4000 to 7000 mi. 4 months ago the oil light came on when I was driving. Checked the oil, it was fine. I've read that a bad oil filter can cause issues w that so I installed a new filter and sending unit and that made the light go out! Problem solved, right? So, 3 days ago, I was on the freeway and the light came on again. Changed the oil n filter and the light went out again. So I'm thinking it's a weak oil pump? Any suggestions, I really don't want to rebuild this motor....

gonna have to put an oil pressure gauge on it.

Its also possible that the connection from the oil pressure sensor somewhere between the sensor and dash itself is bad / intermittent.

As has already been stated above the FIRST thing is to ensure that you are not loosing oil pressure. Install a pressure gauge on the oil sender by adding a tee connection. Then when the light comes on you will be able to see the pressure reading.

If you are dropping pressure you can take steps to correct the issue.

If you are not dropping pressure you can troubleshoot why the light keeps coming on with a false reading.

An oil pressure gauge is a god place to start. I'll tee off the sending unit and have it in the cab. Thanks for the input. It comes completely on at highway speed and stays on.,,

If the oil pressure light comes on, it can be bad.
Get a gauge on it as soon as possible.
I don’t think the oil light comes on until the pressure drops to 4 psi or less.

It’s also possible it is wiring issue as @nd4spdbh said.
The oil pressure switch just grounds the light if press is low.

    Possibles in no certain order.
    1.oil pressure switch
2.worn oil pump or excessive clearance
3.oil pump pick up tube could be clogged/restricted
    4.incorrect oil weight.
5.worn crankshaft main or journal bearings

Yeah. Oil pressure light comes on at STUIPID low pressures under normal conditions... Like if you see that light as your running down the road (and the sensor and system is properly functioning) the damage has already been done.

To that fact, for the OP if things are running like normal and truck sounds and feels fine, im betting an electrical issue.

I have the V6. I afraid there's damage. What is the logical way to run an OP line into the cab?

find a harness grommet on the firewall and poke it though...be careful not to cut the wires
