Hi ! New here! Long time listener first time caller...

This exact set, I know its on the el cheapo side but I'm not trying to break the bank on these. My purpose for these is just to have them set to courtesy lights under my Amazon special running boards.

I had heard to tie into dome or back bed lights. But I'm seeing a lot of different ways. I would love the simplest solution. I am mentally challenged when it comes to wiring and deciphering diagrams.. thanks in advance! Im not above slicing off this controller box and just using the lights lol

This should be the simplest solution as it is plug and play. No guesswork. Shouldn’t be an issue to leave the control box.

I’m knee deep in kitchen electric right now so haven’t reviewed these specific lights to understand the logic / control. I suspect you’re fine either way with the DSIM kit since it’s on or off, no fade. But a fade is cool and is the next level. @Puppypunter has fade in rock lights via additional fade unit. Someday when I’m not slammed for time I might try to do a plug and play kit too but for now the DSIM solution is the best I know of.

You should be okay keeping the controller, but I would check that it functions okay with losing power entirely. It should be fine and retain the functions I’m sure. As to making them fade, I don’t know that is possible on a lot like this, easily at least. Most RGB LEDs are controlled with floating grounds for each R,G, and B. You could grab the positive (anode) feed from the controller I suppose and control the fade there, but that is iffy as to what the results might be. For quick and easy, I think @daveeasa was right with the DSIM option.

And, just to be super clear, Johnny (puppypunter) doesn't have anything for sale as far as fade in / out rock lights. That's a way down the road FBC sorta thing if we ever get all the other things all dialed in and done and we are bored and stuff. So, like, don't wait for it, yeah? DSIM has the "for now" solution which is well regarded from what I know. I will hopefully DIY my own sets if I ever get to work on my own trucks, maybe I can accomplish something by 2035.

Ask the DSIM guy if they have a contact form. It’s relatively new ish so I’d be surprised if he doesn’t do another run if that’s what it takes. He might be refining it a little.

quick question, it might be dumb:

Let's say i wire up a relay from the bed lights power line, would that place too much demand on that circuit? the rock lights are 4 led pods so not much amperage? Also, i don't know much about wiring i only know enough to hurt myself.

A relay is a switch. You take fused power from the battery or some safe spot (trailer brake controller) and distribute it to your rock lights based on an electromechanical switch (relay) which is triggering off {dome, cargo aka bed lights, switch, other}.

without a relay you have to worry about added load.

I believe the DSIM kit comes with a relay but not sure where power is sourced from. The default is from the battery.
