    This particular "someone" would also need to value their labor at/near zero.

    I'm capable of and willing to fix nearly anything. But there's a point on the ROI curve where the value of my time spent doing so just isn't worth it.

    Another part of it is what condition will the vehicle be in after all the repairs are done. When our last mariner was totaled the expense came mostly from the required body work. It had 150k miles on it and the insurance co wanted to get it back to factory showroom condition.

    I didn't need that especially on that vehicle. It just needed to be driveable and safe. So I bought it back and fixed it myself, pocketed the difference, and drove it another 50k miles before I gave it to my brother and bought my Tacoma.

    So driveable? Yes.
    Safe? Yes.
    Totaled and rebuilt with a salvage title? Also yes.

    Also, and not coincidentally, I value my labor "at/near zero". Nobody sweats cheaper than me.
