I have a 2019 Tacoma 4 door, 4x4,V6, 6spd auto, off road. The factory reprogram was done because of excessive shifting. It helped a little but the since the reprogram the transmission seems to hang in gear longer so going downhill or coming up to a stop I have to use the brakes a lot more. I wonder if I should have not had the reprogram done and should have just used 5 gear.

Is this common with the factory reprogram?

    Thanks in advance

There is no going backward after the TSB update. Even new ECUs from Toyota will only come with the latest software. Usually folks are happier with it though.

There is the possibility that the Learn Values were not reset. That can have a marked difference in how TSBs and tunes work with particular Tacos.

It may also adapt out over time. Give it a couple hundred miles to settle in.

Sell it. You were not happy before, and now not happy after. Guess there's no pleasing you. Nothing is stopping you from sliding it over into sport mode.

i just had my 2019 tuned with OTT by paul from PNWtuning. night and day difference. After a couple hundred miles if you still don't like the way it shifts you might want to look at going this route.

I had the reprogram done 4000 miles ago over a year ago. I live in a hilly location but going down hill and coming to a stop sign the truck feels like I am pressing the gas pedal and brake at the same time. Mine was the first the dealer had done the reprogram for.

The truck is an anemic v6, with a 6 speed auto trans, where the 5th and 6th gears are overdrive gears. Toyota's shift logic sucks, as it is fully compliant for EPA, emissions, noise... etc. this causes the truck to constantly shift, to try to "make it efficient, and "in the right gear". It is a performance sensitive drivers nightmare.

Whole forum on here for just tuning info. do your research. I have had tunes from Orange Virus, and KDMaxx, currently on KDMaxx Pro 9.0, and love it. Ski

One more super happy customer with the OTT tune. Best mod I’ve done so far, and would be my first recommendation for a first mod. Drives 100x better. I had the same shifting issues as you before the tune. Constant gear searching and then the hold on a gear after an incline. After the tune, well it shifts like a pickup should.
