    LS1 swap with nitros.
Fumoto valve for the win here. Just drain the oil right into the used container and you’re 1/2 done.

This is why I stopped doing them at home, god I hate the mess.

Best is when the peanut gallery (wife, kids or friend) come to ask why you didnt put the oil in the pan instead of the floor.

Definitely get a good quality filter wrench. I believe dealers maybe still using Mobil 1 oil in bulk barrels and the TOYOTA bottles are Mobil 1with the TOYOTA labels. At least it was back when I bought my truck.

I don’t find the need to trouble myself by removing the filter cap drain plug. It’s a useless task, even if you drain it, it’s still a mess. I would save the money and trouble of a drain hose.

Instead, I find it more efficient to simple spin off the oil filter cap quickly and as soon as it starts to gush out or I can hand spin it, I put a plastic bag I get in droves from Walmart over it and spin it off the rest of the way.
And I don’t find the need to takeout the oil filter drain cap plug to replace the O’ ring, I’ll just do it every now and then, no issues.

I learned somethings with this first oil change. Gonna use a better bucket and get that Motovix drain valve for the filter housing and a better filter wrench. It’ll get better for me. Been changing my oil for 50 years, not gonna stop now. I know everybody has their own way but I change my oil when the engine is hot, never been scalded, never. To each his own.

I’ll try your way once and see before I buy the filter housing drain. But a better filter wrench is a must.

His way is still messy. Buy the drain assembly with the hose for the filter housing and never spill a drip again. Fumoto for the oil pan and done. Takes me like 10 mins to change the oil on my pro, don’t even need to take off the heavy ass skid plate and it doesn’t spill a drop of oil using this method.

Update: I had a local machinist friend make me a filter wrench out of steel. He used a CNC machine on his lunch break, it fits perfectly. I ordered the Motovix drain attachment. Because of my OCD tendencies, I want my oil right up to the full mark on the dip stick. It took 6 qts and 6 oz’s, lol. As far as the mess from my first oil change, I cut a slot in the top of a two gallon bucket for my hand to reach in and remove the drain plug. The bucket barley fits under the oil pan. I think that will stop future spills. Now all that is left is trying to get the oil stain off my driveway from the first oil change, lol.

That's cool you had someone fabricate one for you out of steel!

I got mine off Amazon...seems they are selling 2-packs:

Just be sure your oil wrench doesn't have slots for the ears on the filter housing. The early motivx tool did, and it was causing the plastic housing to crack, and leak.

Cut 4 inches off the top of a 5 gal bucket, .......works great.
I've been using the same bucket for years.

The oil is pretty thin and does come out fast and can splash.

I use a container similar to that but mine is a big rectangle thing that holds 16 quarts.
I use a large flattened box to cover the ground too.

The new motivX tools are the best to use.
I'm thinking of getting a fumoto valve too. I had one on my old Jeep and it does make it cleaner.

No, the wrench he made for me is more like a big socket with a 3/8 drive slot, no slots for the ears and is was machined 10 thousandths bigger than the housing. It fits good, doesn’t slip and doesn’t get stuck. I have a friend that got a Motovix filter wrench and he said it keeps getting stuck on the filter housing and has to beat it off.

Same. I appreciate the Motivx drain tool and funnel, but the filter wrench always gets stuck for me.

I may look for another filter wrench, besides Motivx. Is anyone having luck with other brands not getting stuck?

Same. I also should add that I drove the truck home from work 10 miles/20 minutes. Then drove it up on the ramps as soon as I got home, gathered my tools and quickly changed in to my grungy clothes so it was still really warm when the filter came off. I was shocked that it was stuck on initially but Once it cooled off some it only took a some wiggling to separate them. I didn't have need tools to pry them apart just hands. Remember heat makes materials expanded.

I doubt that I would buy a new filter wrench again. This one still works better than the original motivX design with the notches.

    YIKES!

I'm fortunate I can go on-base (Dover AFB) Auto Hobby Shop and put my truck on a lift to drain the oil pan. (Photos from Sep 18, 2022)

That still didn't prevent me from making a mess...not as bad as yours but still annoying because it got on the skid plate.

I was a bit frustrated because the paper filter I bought was the wrong size so I had to put the same filter back in my truck.

I also skipped putting on the Fumoto Valve since I wanted it all done at the same time.

It's had an oil change since (Dec2022) at the dealership. I have 1 more visit before my ToyotaCare/2yr Maintenance is complete. (May2023)

At that point, I will be doing my own oil changes at the Auto Hobby Shop every 5K miles.
