Does anyone have any input on awning installs with camper shells? I'm looking for one right now and I'm having a hard time seeing how everyone is mounting, brands, pricing and whatnot. I already have my camper shell attatched to my vehicle i just dont have any tracks to mount anything to the shell itself. Any information would be awesome!

Mounting to a shell would depend on your type of roof rack

    Welcome to TW.

They come with "L" brackets that allow multiple mounting options/to differing rack systems. They're not 100% universal but pretty close.

So we have to have a roof rack system to mount them to I take it? That's one thing I'm lacking besides the awning itself is a roof rack on my truck.

Tracks on the shell would be your first step, after that you’re pretty free to buy or fabricate whatever rack setup you want that will fit in those tracks. The awnings can be mounted differently but the L-brackets are cheap and pretty universal, some roof rack manufacturers will sell their own proprietary mounts too.

I suppose you could just mount the brackets to the cap but if you're going to be drilling through it for an awning might be worth the extra expense to at least put the universal rack tracks on it (imo). Realize awnings are current "cool thing" but can get a tailgating awning/shelter for ~ same price of an awning, it's portable and doesn't require breaking down if you want to drive from camp. Added bonus of if you don't need a rack for anything else, you aren't putting holes in your cap.

If you don’t want to go through the expense of buying and installing T tracks on the roof of your shell, you might be interested in this tarp. I got myself this same tarp and havent had the chance to use it yet.
Looks like it provides more coverage than most roll-up style hard mounted awnings too

I've been using a Roadhouse Tarp for a few years and like it a lot. Simple setup, tons of space and can be setup with or without the truck.

Ironman 4x4 has decent affordability with a really nice quick release solution.

Stock, but not stock (but stock)
I love my Slumberjack. I think I've set it up more without the truck than with it!
