Latest picture. This is how she looks now.

My wife and I just purchased a blazing blue 2016 TRD Sport DCSB 4X4 so I thought, why not start a build thread? Everyone else is doing it.

My real reason is to use this thread to track what I've done. And of course to BS about the mods I want to do. This will probably be a pretty mild build compared to many of the fantastic trucks I've seen here since the main goals are to add some personal style and improve the usability of the truck both on and off road.

    Planned mods are:
    - TRD pro grill
    - New wheels and tires. I'm thinking about TRD pro wheels but I'd like to find a different wheel as well. I love the TRD wheels but a lot of people do them and I'd like to do something a little different.
    - Lose the front air dam
    - Trade the oval tube running boards for some predator steps.
    - Home made bed divider
    - De-sticker?
    - De-badge?

Below are some "baseline" photos that show how the truck looked when we bought it. 18 03 14_0424.jpg

Stage 1 - Addition by subtraction. The cheapest mod you can do is removing stuff you don't like. I took off all the stickers from the glass. Dropped the tube running boards and the front air dam. I also got the perm NC plate so the ugly VA temp tag and inspection stickers also went in the trash can. I have a feeling the mud flaps might not last much longer either. :D

What holds the front air dam on? Hard to remove? Do you get better mpg with it on?

There is about eleven 10mm screws/bolts that hold it on. I'm not sure about the mpg yet. I'll know better by next weekend after a week of commuting.

Thanks. I'm getting a sport in a few months, other than looks, wondering if there are any pros/cons.

I think the TRD sport is a better on road vehicle when compared to the TRD off road but it's still enough of an off road vehicle for most people. Of course if you hang around on this website for awhile you'll start wanting to drive over more stuff.

Looking around the website, I'm starting to think this could lead down a rabbit hole I never thought I'd go down. Looking forward to it :)

I know what you mean. I'm already planning a trip out to Cape Lookout for an off road beach camping trip.

Jesus, I last saw this thread in March, and you took a beautiful truck ,worked on it while I was gone, and made it even more beautiful. I love it, it looks great.

Don't debadge and desticker. I think Tacoma trucks look best with their nice badges, and OEM decals.

I tend to agree. I blacked out the door badges on my '23 but did remove the V6 from the tailgate because it seems un-needed IMO.
