So what about when someone buys a truck that's been modified by the dealer? How is that handled? Just curious

certain types of modifications can still be uninsurable risks, even if from the dealership. there are some vehicles that are uninsurable straight from the factory, at least on a personal policy. some need a commercial policy even if not used for a business. each insurance company will have different standards.

rv policies can also have a bunch of weird rules.

Wow Double whammy! Good thing I never bought a lifted truck from the dealer. If so you get hosed by the dealer for way overpriced components then you could get potentially screwed by your insurance company. Well I guess were all rolling the dice when we mod our vehicles. A billion $ industry in upgrades and mods on vehicles only to possibly get screwed. Wonderful. Ignorance may be bliss here. I need to unsubscribe because I like to mod my vehicles.

I'm VA and just got my renewal and its up big time, no change in anything since last year. What's nuts is my 12' taco has a higher increase vs my 21' 4runner. They also jacked my homeowners up $661 for the year as well. Hopefully you will fair better.

A LOT has changed since last year, especially with inflation.

I re shopped it today with another local agency and was able to get it lower then what I was paying before my current carrier tried to hit me with that huge increase. Same coverages and options as well.

Its all a big shame anyways, its like they want me to move on so they issue that crazy increase at my renewal so I will do so. Like they suffered to much loss or have to much risk in my area.

    Hey cromag!

In a situation would love some input.
Vehicle: 2022 tacoma 15k miles paid off
    Colorado.
My insurance is a nice 4 letter military friendly.
    His is a great progress.

Involved in a front end collision I was passing through a intersection with a green light car didn’t yield and pulled directly in front of me. He’s liable for this.
I went through my insurance as this accident happened 2 days ago. Minor injuries from wreck, knee, neck was sore and severe migraine for 24 hours or so.
Vehicle was taken to the “preferred body shop” for my insurance. I checked it in and they have started the process while I was there the front desk lady made a comment as I was waiting on my wife to pick me up. The exact comment was “her (appraiser) will do whatever she can to make sure it’s not a total loss, she works for commission if it’s totaled she makes no money”. This bothered me on the basis of well if it’s close they’d definitely overlook some things.Or they’d just blatantly leave things off and then start request more money as they go. I called my insurance and they said it was unprofessional but even if I take my vehicle somewhere else they’d still use the numbers from the first shop( one it’s currently at with the issues stated above) I’m hoping for a total loss as it was just paid off and do not want my new truck to be worth 5k dollars. Some people have mentioned a lawyer. I’m curious on how I should proceed. Be patient and wait for the estimate to be completed? Get a lawyer? Would love some of your input. Thanks so much for your time. Attaching photos of truck. Also would love to know how all this works if it is a total loss with all my aftermarket accessories as I didn’t have extra coverage for those items. Ignorance on my part. Thanks brother.

the people who are mentioning getting a lawyer, are not lawyers themselves. what laws/statutes have been violated? what are your damages at this point? still way too early in the claims process still. but…. you’ll still want to contact an attorney regarding your bodily injury.

the comments made by the appraiser are heresy and i don’t believe would be actionable. she didn’t say anything illegal, just real shady.

ideally you’d want the vehicle to be totaled and they will pay actual cash value. you’d have to verify with them regarding any custom parts and equipment. this coverage can vary from company to company. some policies include $x automatically.

insurance is like any other consumer product out there - prices can be effected my inflation. some companies are better at keeping rates as stable as possible (progressive), some companies are bad at it (geico). all companies have different criteria when it comes to customer retention. if you have any concerns about your premium, call your insurance company or agent. they will either try and find a solution or they’ll tell you to pound sand. this is a good indication as to how much they value you as a customer. pro tip - we always know why your rates change and any good insurance agent will tell you, whether you like the answer or not.

been having hell of a time finding insurance as I do pizza delivery part-time. Progressive has a "ride-share" endorsement but after I got in a collision they sent me a list of all these exceptions basically saying i'm not covered while delivering (which they told me on the phone and email that i was..). really pissed me off. Thankfully other driver was at fault and their insurance company paid. Finally found a local state farm agent willing to insure me. why is it so hard to get insurance as a delivery driver?

ridesharing are through assigned based companies like uber, doordash, lyft, etc. pizza delivery is a different vehicle “usage”. progressive does offer insurance for what you do.

yea, that's what i heard, but when i called they said the "rideshare" option covers pizza delivery. but it seemed like noone knew for sure. So i canceled them and switched to State Farm who said I'm completely covered.
