I confirmed with the local dealership today that they are not available under the recall part number.

If you put that part number into the Camelback website, it comes up as available. However, nowhere on the site does it state that it is a set of 2 ball joints, so...

You can plug that part number into many parts.<whatever-Toyota-dealer>.com websites and it shows available. I found out that buying it is a whole different ballgame.

EDIT: Whatever goes wrong happens at order fulfillment. My local dealership, Stadium Toyota here in Tampa, was able to find the part number and verify it was for both LBJs. Parts guy said he couldn’t find it in his catalog (whatever that meant) but he could sell the same ball joints individually.

For the amount of time ya'll are spending on trying to find two ball joints bundled together, I could have ordered them individually and installed them on my truck by now.

If I put it in a cart and go to checkout, they sure want to take my money. Unless you're saying I'd get a phone call or email later saying they cannot fulfill the order...

See post #39, that is exactly what happened to me except I pulled the trigger and they took my money. I replied to that email stating I needed the 2 LBJs and since then it’s been radio silence from them.

Update: This was resolved. Email correspondence is slow, usually next day or so, but they updated my order for the individual LBJs and I paid the extra $40. That said, I only used them because the recall part number was available on their website. I could have ordered the individual ball joints from my local dealer and saved shipping which was estimated at $8 and turned out to be $25.

I read that post, but did not get that you had already ordered it and then were later denied. It looked like you were inquiring into the availability of the item, and they said it was not available. Sorry that you had to go through that. I am not in the market, I was just looking into whether they were available for sale.

ouchie ouch. With all the incidents of LBJ failure shared here on TW, FB and IG - yeah, I'm not going to be freaked over 20 bucks. Get them, install them and periodically check them.

Looks like this dealer may still have a couple sets in stock, selling them on eBay... still not sure why dealers can't order them, it's a very old SSC, I would not expect them to be on VIN-release, but who knows.

If your going to do the job yourself I suggest renting or. Buying this puller. OEMTOOLS 27170 Heavy Duty Pitman... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004FEPE80?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share It has been the easiest times I've ever had getting the ball jt to separate from the lower control arm. All the other types gave me hell and would end up failing ie stretching apart. 20230224_203517.jpg
The impact is nice for replacing the cv axle.

    Jeff,
Just for reference, I retrofitted the LBJ Protector boots and OEM 90119-10933 black bolts to my 01/97 produced '97 V6 Taco 4x4 hunting truck. Depth of the blind holes on the original OEM knuckles was checked and there was depth to spare for the black bolts even without the LBJ Protector boot installed. But just as you stated, it would be a good idea to clear any debris out of the blind holes and check available depth on each individual knuckle before final installation. Leon's data definitely indicated that using (4) OEM 90119-10933 black bolts torqued to 37 ft./lbs. to attach the LBJ offers a substantial increase in preload over any other OEM bolts.

I believe I used the smaller version of that on the TRE.
