I keep hearing some say the Duratracs are loud. I noticed the SL are 16/32 tread depth and I believe C and E are 18/32 depth. Is it possible that most of the noise complaints come from the C and E crowd due to the more aggressive tread pattern? Can anyone with SL version comment on noise? Interested in 265/70/16 or 75. Thanks

It's the nature of the tire, the SL's are slightly quieter, but they need to be cross rotated often to stop the feathering and noise from increasing.

The E's are louder for sure, but they last a lot longer. Many E duratracs support studs as well, hinting at it's original purpose of being a service tire.

C's are effectively SL, nearly the same load rating. They also have a softer looking sidewall, they curve and look more like an oem tire. I personally think if its for looks or hard offroading, go E.

I owned an E set and got a little tired of the noise, the off roading was amazing though.

They are the most aggressive A/T tire, hence the noise level is a little higher. I honestly dont notice mine as being loud, and will get the same tire again next time, but bigger.

P.S. I'm on year 5 on them, and hoping to get another year out of them. And these are my winter tires too with the 3 peak snow designation...

Both answers above me are correct. Rotation was important.

I owned SL and I could hear them. More around turns. But it never got unbearable. After I sold that truck to get my current Tacoma I noticed how weirdly quiet the tires were.

I've never heard of so many people worried about the noise of an aggressive tire, with the nearly Mud Tire style tread, they are going to be louder on the highway. I'm running the Cooper Rugged Trek's and I can hear them on the highway, so I just turn my music up, and go on with my day. The traction I get offroad, like last night when I went up in to the snowy hills and pulled a 90's Ford Expedition out of a snowy ditch is worth hearing the noise on the highway.

Who's worried? I miss the noise.

It gradually becomes louder after a couple of years otherwise it’s quiet from a AT /3snowpeak/great looking and performing tire .

I noticed slightly more noise going from SL Wildpeaks in 265/75/16 to SL Duratracs in 255/75/17, but I had to think about it to really notice it. If I went straight from stock tires to Duratracs, the little bit of noise may have been more apparent, but they’re truck tires that are specifically made for the best balance of highway/offroad/snow use and they do great at that. I’ve tried so many ATs (and MTs) over the years, I think Duratracs are the best all around all season truck tire you can get.

Thanks for all the advice, I’ve really narrowed it down to these and Mickey Thompson. I can get the duratracs a couple hundred less so that’s probably what I’ll do
