How hard is it for a guy to swap a v6 prerunner motor into a v4 2.7 prerunner frame. Any major modification motor mounts changed or anything? Reasoning why I have a 04 3rz stock experience drive lines motor has 300k on it still running good but I’m hard on it and when that motor goes I want to keep that truck and put a v6 motor if its not to expensive do you need conversion kit do they make one? I am 18 not in the best spot to go all out with it yet but when I win the lottery it’s going places

    Welcome to the Forum.

Having no idea of your skill level your very hard may be my simple or the other way is also possible.

Many swap threads do as much research as possible.

Frame perches need moved. Not real sure about Auto Transmissions if things need changed. Manual Transmissions and Clutch for sure are different

    Fuel line and filter differences

Exhaust cross over pipe and connections etc.

New Timing Belt hoses belts etc all the consumable parts.

As long as you have The Electrical Wiring Diagrams for all the vehicles involved the merging of the wire harnesses are not to difficult. You can purchase a ready made harness $$$$ in most cases.

The easy way to do this swap is get a running donor vehicles third generation 4Runners make great donors.

That way most all the needed parts are in hand.

Off the top of my head I am sure I forgot things

The thing to remember all swaps will end up slightly different so you need to deal and work with your working with.

If the swaps did not offer any benefit they would seldom happen.

Good luck in your future endeavor.

Different motor mounts have to be welded in for sure. It’s not a popular swap - lots of work for little gain.

So correct me....but the drive shaft would also have move forward with the new engine...
so now you'd have to have a new rear 3rd....
and would have to be customed installed...brake lines....park brake...ect...

It would be better to wait for a donor frame for the 5vz......

and stick another 3rz back into first........

you know a boat without a motor aint worth much......hint hint.....

but that would be hell of a thread if you do swap.....a lot of support and followers....for sure...

If your worried about your truck lasting a long time.....change your fluids regularly.........not no 10K shit......

And hate to say it but the pink slime builds up on the aluminum parts......slowing heat transfer....

dont take my word for it.....try and flush it out and see how many times it takes......

The frames are the same but for a few minor differences .

one being the location where the frame perches are welded to the frame.

If moving them is beyond your skill building a cross over pipe is impossible

Since many of the pick ups and second generation 4 runners with both the 3.0 and 2.4 now have 3.4 engines

What would be better sticking with the same 2.7 and turbo/supercharger. Okay well my problem with the motor that’s in it now I starting to hear what I think is a rod knock and Ik I have a lifter tic. I’m stuck between rebuild it turbo it or just flat out swap it. Ik it would be a long project. I’m looking for more power in my Motor and not real familiar with the Toyota and their motors

a dropped one and a high one
I sold my 3rz truck, had I not I would have turbocharged the truck. I’d say that’s the way to go

It really comes down to your skills or what your willing to try.

Paying full Labor rate gets very expensive.

I just read that one person was quoted $3500.00 to pull and install the same engine.

If you want pure Horsepower go with one of the Chevy engines though in time you will pretty much end up with your cab and bed and a chevy drive train.

    Best of luck!
