This is my bought about 3.5 years ago with around 250k miles. This truck is a 2001 Base Xtracab with 5VZ-FE, auto, 4WD, e-locker, and TRD package (or, at least, stickers on the bed). With COVID, I've been WFH for most of the time we've owned it, so we've only put about 10k-15k miles on it in that time, and it's got about 264k miles on it now.

The power steering belt recently started making noise. The belts all seem to be reasonably new and in good condition; the P/S belt in particular seems a bit loose, so I'm going to increase the tension a bit and hope that solves the problem.

I have had three 3rd gen 4Runners: two 2000 SR5 with 3.4L v6, and one 2WD with 2.7 I4, and I loved them all. *IIRC, all of my 3rd gen 4Runners had serpentine belts for the accessory drive, but* this Taco has individual belts for the accessories. They are flat ribbed belts as opposed to v-belts. I observed the individual belts in my pre-purchase inspection but assumed (perhaps incorrectly) that this was one of the differences between Tacos & 4Runners. That said -- all of the parts stores list serpentine belts for this year and engine.
*Edit Note: The underlined portion is incorrect. Thank you for the correction.

    So here's my question:
Did any 2001 Tacoma V6 engines come with individual belts instead of serpentine belts, or did some PO swap this engine?

[If this has been discussed elsewhere, please link me to it - I couldn't find any relevant info with Google or Bing searches.]

My '02 has individual belts, and the '01 I had prior was the same.

You are not remembering correctly. Your 3rd gen 4runner did not have a serpentine belt on either engine.

After further review, I believe you are correct.
My confusion arose from my use of certain auto parts websites (and a defective memory).
Searching for "Power Steering Belt" didn't have any results; "Accessory Belt" listed a "Serpentine Heavy-Duty Transmission Belt" (whatever that is...).

Subsequently, searching for "Alternator Belt" resulted in all three necessary belts -- P/S, A/C, and Alternator.

Thank you for steering me straight!

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Another thing with vehicles this old you have no idea just what you might find when you open the hood .

I have had many interesting and strange surprises over the years.

Unless you drove it home from the dealer brand new.
