It's your money and your truck, do what you're comfortable with. My 2018 and 2022 Tacomas both had a bit of metal that disappeared after the first oil change.

I would if you want to keep it for 300k miles or longer. If it’s done before 100k forget it

Yes, If you plan to keep it for the long haul then extreme service intervals. If you plan to flog it after 5-7 years do the minimum. I changed mine at 1,000k and do 5k intervals which for me is twice a year. That's just me. Some very good info here. Also don't forget to change you ATF and coolant. It's not life long.

Big waste of time replacing the oil after 1k miles and even 5k unless you fall into the severe category. Been doing 10k on our 2012 prius since new. It's now at 112k miles, and runs as good as the day we got it. I've never changed the oil, and never inquired what these dealers used.

Modern manufacturing tolerances don’t require the old school break in oil changes. Just wasting time, oil and money.

For me it’s 1000 miles then every 5000 or 6 months. I enjoy doing oil changes and it’s also good to look your truck over and get ahead of any potential issues.

I did a break in change at 1500ish. I likely would have waited to 2500 or so but I drove the truck 900 miles in 2.5 days after it rolled off the truck at the dealer with 3 miles.

Surprisingly the oil was pretty clean. Bought the MotivX kit as well as a Fumoto drain valve per my dad’s advice and he showed me how to change my own oil (he lives 3 hours away and has done most of my oil changes) I went with the TRD filter because it was like $13 and I figured what the hell, a regular filter was like $6. Mobil1 synthetic.

truthfully the truck isn’t a daily driver and we don’t have a commute and my kids are young so road trips aren’t going to be common for a few more years. I’ll be lucky to get 5k miles every year but will be doing a full change and swap annually regardless of miles.

I’ve had my 2019 not quite 3 1/2 years, don’t drive many miles and less that 10k miles. Had 3 oil changes, in strict accordance with the Warranty and Maintenance guide.

I'm going to do mine this week at @ 2000 miles.
Then @ 5000. Will change at 5k intervals from there on.

I did the first one on mine myself at 4500 miles and let the dealer do it every 5K till 20K (only had to pay for 1 at 15Kmi). Coming up on 25K and have a couple filters in stock along with a stash of 5w30 synthetic...

    It's a secret
One day I will be able to ignore oil change intervals and just buy a new vehicle every 7500mi...

    But not today.

    Or tomorrow.

Blackstone Labs proves you wrong. Told me to go 12,000 and retest. I’m good with my schedule.

Do that and use whatever oil # the manual recommends. 10k oil changes is more than good enough on these trucks. 5k with any devent oil should more than suffice. Just make sure you do the other oil changes, diffs, t case, tranny, etc

Just do it, you will know for sure that if your truck didn't make it to 200k miles 20 years, it wasn't because you skipped break-in oil change.

After the 3k mark when the truck was new, I change mine every 8k, which equates to about every other month, 6 times a year. I drive a round 48k per year.
